Object Thrown

Recommended Posts

A lot of talk about an object thrown @ Davie Weir ?????, never seen it myself, did anyone see this ?

Never saw it, Setanta mentioned it briefly and quickly forgot about it. Saw Weir complaining about something, but it wasn't actually shown on tv.

No doubt the press and authorities will be more concerned about what was being sung.

Didn't see it myself, but Chik Yung was making out on Sportsound like it had definitely happened. Not that El chico is always right mind you, but he mentioned that he thought there was blood coming from behind Davie's ear. He also asked Walter Smith about it in the post match interview & there didn't seem

to be any doubt about it.

[OT]What a ned infested shithole this part of the world has become. I say the world, because it's not just Scotland, although Scotland & the UK in general is particularly infested & shitty.[/OT]

And what was being sung. Watched it on Setanta, had it on quite loud and all I heard was a few snatches of 'No surrender'. But 's that not specifically banned.

At any rate it's no different to what I heard the other night on Rab. C Nesbitt. Guy lays dying and someone says, 'he's turned blue.' "Course he has, he's a Hun!". Would have lauged at that at one time but now..

Watched a recent episode of 'Skins' last night & the dopey Irish teacher character played by Dougle from Father Ted was quoted as saying to his new wench that all he needs is regular sex & plenty of potatoes. Just about wet myself laughing.

Hamilton have apologised to Rangers and defender David Weir after a thrown coin hit the defender - and have vowed to ban the culprit from their ground.

The Scottish Premier League club will examine CCTV footage on Monday and have appealed to the fan to own up after the incident during Saturday's match.

"Such behaviour is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the club," said a club statement.

"The club have apologised to the player and to Rangers FC."

Weir was struck by the missile thrown from the Main Stand towards the end of the game, which Rangers won 1-0, just after Alex Neil and Barry Ferguson were both booked.

The incident went unnoticed by referee Craig Thomson and fourth official Willie Collum.

But Accies have now promised to act swiftly and ban those responsible.

Whether they are a season-ticket holder or not they will not be allowed back into the club.

Safety officer Tom Purdie said: "I didn't see it happen, I was looking up the tunnel at the time and it was just drawn to my attention.

"It was a five pence coin and we will carry out our own internal investigation on Monday.

"Neither the referee nor the fourth official spotted it and Rangers aren't making an issue out of it.

"The police came over to try and ascertain where it came from, but it could have come from anywhere and you cannot legislate for that.

"You can have the best stewarding or policing. Hopefully the CCTV cameras will pick something up when we go back through it."

The incident is likely to be mentioned in Scottish Premier League delegate Alex Smith's report into the match.

And, if Hamilton manage to identify the person responsible, that supporter will face a ban from the Lanarkshire club.

"When we find the culprit, I will report it to the police," said Purdie.

"Whether they are a season-ticket holder or not they will not be allowed back into the club.

"I thought this sort of thing would be finished with. I don't want to highlight it too much because the more you highlight it... it's like hanging a sign saying 'wet paint, don't touch'.

"Rangers, in that case, are trying to play it down.

"I've spoken to Alex Smith about it. He didn't see the incident either and whether it's contained in his report I don't know.

"We will carry out our own inquiry anyway."

Accies boss Billy Reid said: "If someone threw something, that's hugely disappointing.

"That's not what this football club is about. If it has hurt David Weir then we apologise."

Weir was not injured during the incident, with Rangers manager Walter Smith confirming: "He was hit by a coin, but he is fine."

I don't see how punishing the club helps matters. What could Hamilton have done to stop it happening?

Punish the fan!

Either the Famine/plastic paddy Song or something like it was sung. It was roundly booed but I couldn't tell if the booing was by Rangers or Hamilton fans - or both.

I think the shelf life of that song is well and truly passed and we need to drop it and move on to a new song that is a bit more clever, in that it can't be twisted by Celtic or the media to pretend it means something that we can be punished for.

How about this to "Land of Hope and Glory":

Land of Mopes' sad story,

Where speech is never free,

They're offended by our nationality,

In our own country.

They sing in praise of terrorists,

We sing about their hypocracy,

Yet we're hauled over the coals,

While they are let off, Scot free.
