Adams to leave Portsmouth

Recommended Posts

Grant just coached in Israel before that plus an assistant job somewhere in England.

I dont think he is a bad coach TBH and could be a good shout for them. Curbishley will probably be favourite. Maybe Gullit or Hoddle would be contenders.

Hoddle may be in the same boat as Graham though and been out the game to long.

I thought Adams would have done better than he has done tbh but can't help feeling his players have let him down and in some games been unlucky not to come away with anything. They played some good stuff on Saturday but the defending I felt was down to individual errors.

Id blame David James for the game on saturday, he should have got to the 2nd and 3rd goal better. He didnt even lift his arms for the 2nd and had plenty time.

Too may players there put there heads down once Redknapp left, seemed they were playing for Harry more than for the club. Its make or break time for Pompey, they either bring in a good manager and hurry up and get to the new stadium or they will get relegated and have money problems and end up like Derby and Charlton as struggling Championship sides.

I'd blame Distin more than James.

Granted he should maybe have done better with the second but the shot was from an acute angle possibly to an unexpected near post and was hit with some venom. Even the pundits thought this was the case.

James was badly positioned for the 3rd so would have to take some of the blame, BUT so would Campbell and Distin again who were shocking.

Confirmed:

Portsmouth are to announce that they have parted company with boss Tony Adams after just over three months in charge, BBC Sport understands.

Portsmouth have won just two of their 16 Premier League matches since Adams, 42, took charge back on 28 October.

On Saturday, Pompey were beaten at home by Liverpool despite leading 2-1 with just five minutes to go.

Prior to that loss - the seventh in eight games - Adams had insisted he had the backing of the club chiefs.

Portsmouth are currently 16th in the table, one point above the relegation zone, with 14 games to play.

Adams was appointed at the end of October when Harry Redknapp, who guided Pompey to FA Cup glory last season, decided to take the Tottenham job.

The former Arsenal and England captain was named as Redknapp's number two in 2006, after an ill-fated spell in charge of Wycombe and coaching jobs in the Netherlands with Feyenoord and Utrecht.

At Wycombe, the Gunners legend won only 12 of his 53 games in charge, losing 20.

Early contendors

Avram Grant, Alan Curbishley and Sven Goran Eriksson will be considered by Portsmouth to replace Adams. (Daily Mail)
