Tonel at 28 could quite probably play another 6 seasons comfortably.

Dont get me wrong, I am not against Tonel as a player - just that we are looking at signing ANOTHER CB.

Does WS not trust Broadfoot at CB and we could get another, more natural RB in ?

We will soon have a team (actually we are already there) which consists of 4 CB's and 4CM's. So 8 positions being filled by what would normally be 4 players in any given team. That is ludicrous. Broadfoot, Papac and Davis have done well in their non-preferred positions but surely we should be looking at getting people in their preferred positions.

WS signings during the summer are looking more surreal by the moment. 3 strikers when that was arguably our strongest position. Davis, Mendes & Edu - all CM's - when we had Thomson and Ferguson - so FIVE CM's fighting for 2 positions (and we already have the likes of Hemdani already at the club). Bougherra has looked good but, again, was he needed ? (not slating it as I am glad he is here). Broadfoot could have played beside Weir and we could have got a natural RB.

So many of WS signings looked like "this guy is the best we can do so lets get him - what ? he is a CM and we already have 4 of those - no matter, he is still the best we can get. What ? We need an RB ? Nah, let's just shoehorn a CB in there" - It is the stuff of comedy if it weren't so serious !

Don't disagree with you, my comment was in relation to alex complaining about his age.

Don't doubt he could play for another 6 seasons, but it's another nail in the coffin for our 'youth' policy. More likely it'll be a transaction where we'll look to offload him at the first decent offer, rather than actually trying to build a team/squad that could 'grow' together.

'Ripening nicely' for what though? The end of Walter? 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished, but who is there to replace him? (Don't say cynically, 'anyone') I'd quite fancy Craig Levein, but he's just opted for 3 years at Dundee U.:brick:

Levein over Smith?? You've got to be yanking the chain.... :ffs: Craig Levein wouldn't be good enough for the Scotland manager position imo, so i fail to see why he would be of any benefit to Rangers. Smith on the other hand, delivered some of the best results that Scotland's had in decades & boosted the national squad's international ranking by a huge margin in doing so.... Unfortunately all that good work's been undone now.. :ffs:

One step at a time mate. First I'd settle for seeing the back of Walter. After that our disinterested chairman will undoubtedly invite laffing boy to steer us through the next period of decline. We haven't had a decent manager since Souness and guess who didn't appoint him? It doesn't really matter who I'd like, only whether Murray continues to own the club.

Souness is a sack of a manager. He might have done ok for us & had his moments throughtout his career, but he's still a shite a manager. What has he done? Please list his noticeable achievements after leaving Rangers.
