I remember somebody asking why we were called the light blue's. I don't know if anyone gave the answer but as i am reading The Rangers miscellany for the Gersnet revue i will give away one thing. The answer is we played in (Man City) sky blue until the 1930's. After that it was Royal blue.

That explains why el Chico & cheapo Trainer still refer to us as the light blues on occasion. :fish:

Annoyingly, the RFC website also refers to us as the Light Blues. Over the years our strips have got lighter. The current one is not bad, but sometimes in the light it seems more light than Royal Blue for me.

As i said above up until the 1930'swe played in Man city, Napoli,Marseille blue. 60 years of playing in that colour would be a more realistic reason.

Seemingly the real reason we are called the light blues is nothing to do with the colour of the strip. It refers to the youthfulness and lightness of build of our players in the early days compared to the older physical teams. It stems from a newspaper article in 1877. It called the Rangers" the Light and speedy blues." The name was later shortened to the light blues for short.

And no Craig,Jon or Gribz i was not present at the time.:P

I loathe the lightness - in colour - of some of our modern strips, and I believe that originally Light Blue was the colour, only becoming closer to Royal Blue in the thirties, I think. I wish we could get back to that Royal Blue - my scarf, and those of most supporters - is much darker than the team shirt.
