maineflyer 0
Willingly offended and so desperate to feel victimised, the hypocrisy brigade want "The Famine's Over" banned. They don't want us to stop singing it, they want us to be banned from singing it. Which, as always, is mildly amusing. What really disappoints me, however, me is the predictable knee jerk rush from Ibrox to judge and condemn our own fans. Think what you will about the song or its sentiments, it is still only that, a football song. No bad language, no overt abuse, just a taunt between football rivals. Why are those who run our club so utterly incapable of exercising rational judgement? Why do they always get it so wrong? Why are they willing to support a move to have us arrested and burdened with a criminal record for singing this song with its rather appropriate question?
CammyF 7,988
and ironically the MOPES sing an IRA song called 'let the people sing'.... BTW, you're not likely to hear any condemnation of that, or any other IRA, political or sectarian song the MOPES sing - the reason? Well, the people running our club are spineless b@stards and our fanbase prefer to sit back and moan about our songs, heritage and culture being attacked, rather than take action against those who are attacking us. PS - a quick search on YOUTUBE will gain you videos of many IRA and sectarian songs belted out by the MOPES at Fir Park on Saturday. maineflyer 0
I have to face it that the Rangers I grew up with and loved so much for so many years is over and gone. The sheer weakness of those running the club today has destroyed it for me. I've all but given up.
CammyF 7,988
Yes - agreed. However, the MOPES have also changed, and have cottened on to the fact that the establishment is very much pro them and anti us. This has given them a free reign to attack us at every opportunity and to have a media that is far to easily coerrsed (sp) into taking up and promoting their 'offendedness'. What can we do? Nothing, we need our club to help us here. That is a scarey thought as Rangers won't do a thing to support us. In fact, Rangers would be more than willing to help the MOPES rather than help us. maineflyer 0
But he's spent £600 million of his own money so he's earned the right to turn this club into whatever he wants. That's the moral of the story isn't it? That excuses everything.
Bluedell 5,614
So Celtic play a song about the famine (TFOA) but they object to being told that the famine is over? Perhaps they shouldn't bring the subject up in the first place then?
Guest damien
Murray won't upset the establishment while he is looking to sell, in fact he wouldn't fullstop. All he has to do is support the supporters rights to their beliefs. The minute he relinquinshed TBB was the minute he gave the MOPEs free reign to attack our club at every opportunity. He didn't have to defend the song all he had to do was defend people's rights to rejoice in their beliefs. He didn't even fail, to say that would say he attempted to defend us.

They proclaim a hatred of Britain yet when we ask them to leave they complain.
johnnyk 158
If someone wrote to the Irish Embassy regarding the songs they sing would they bring this up and ask Celtic to stop singing them or is it OK to freely sing about the IRA and FTQ etc? Rangers should be ashamed bowing to this but our club has had no leader at the helm for years...........
Guest damien
johnnyk here's a question to ponder, why haven't Celtic complained or made a statement? They know a can of worms may be opening here.
