Gribz 837
BBC say he left, Sky saying he has been sacked. Manager Kevin Keegan has left Newcastle United after only eight months in charge, BBC Radio 5 Live understands. The 57-year-old held talks with the club's board on Tuesday morning amid reports he was unhappy with a lack of control over transfer activity. Newcastle's only business on transfer deadline day was a £5.7m swoop for Spanish striker Xisco and the loan signing of midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez. The ex-England boss rejoined the club in January for a second spell as boss. Angry supporters gathered at St James' Park to protest at the reports of Keegan's impending departure. The manager's relationship with owner Mike Ashley was reported to have soured in May this year, after Keegan claimed that Newcastle were unlikely to break into the top four during his time in charge. 606: DEBATE Give your reaction to the shock developments at St James' Park One appointment two weeks into Keegan's tenure that caused controversy was Dennis Wise, taken on board to oversee transfer activity. BBC Radio 5 Live's Juliette Ferrington reported that the sale of players and the failure to replace them had brought the meeting to a head. The transfer window saw the arrival of six players at Newcastle, with five players leaving the club. James Milner was one of those who left last week, transferred to Aston Villa for a fee of £12m, with Keegan admitting it had been difficult to see the 22-year-old leave. Keegan had also supported Joey Barton, after the controversial midfielder spent 74 days in jail for an assault conviction. Barton will also be attending a personal hearing on Friday after admitting a Football Association violent conduct charge. Newcastle are 11th in the Premier League having picked up just four points from their opening three games. Must be a nightmare for a manager with this director of football thing coming in buying players for you. Cant blame Keegan if this is the case. Wise is the favourite to take over.
Jon 0
Im a bit suprised at this tbh, heard it on the radio a little while ago. Cant blame Keegan for being unhappy with the sale of Milner and the lack of players brought in. I wonder if they will seek a big name of if this will be the time they move Wise into the managers role....
Gazza_8 233
Newcastle are a shambles! I felt Ashley was wrong to bring him back. No one will want that job. Are there any decent managers out their who are unemployed at present?
Jon 0
Shearer is bound to be tipped again I'd imagine....
juffery 0
Talk of Deschamps, Rijkarrd, Wise and maybe Steve Bruce or Davie Moyes. I thik it'll be Wise, at least in the short term. I was surprised he went back to Keegan in the first place, never rated him as a manager.
Guest Mac
The future of Kevin Keegan and the manager's role at Newcastle United is unclear after the club insisted it had not sacked him. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7593683.stm
Gribz 837
Agree with Gav, the guy Ashley doesnt have a clue what he is doing. They probably want to force him to quit so they dont have to pay a big payoff fee.
