Queen Of The South In Europe

Recommended Posts

Typical small Scottish team adds nothing to the coefficient but the total is still divided by 4. I know we can't talk this year but if you average the last two season's we've still done not bad and we've contributed the most in Scotland by miles over the last 5 years.

I don't expect the lesser Scottish teams to do as well as the OF but I do expect them to compete with their peers in other countries, especially what we consider as lesser footballing nations. Why should teams with less support and money be beating our best of the rest?

The SFA have added to this by being total idiots about allowing the runners up in the cup into Europe. The likes of QotS, Gretna and many others are never going to compete.

It wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't to the complete detriment of Scottish football. Not only is our ranking adversely affected but it takes away the chance for the 4th team in the SPL to get experience in Europe, and if a few teams regularly qualify, they thereby become stronger in that competition.

It also makes teams like Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd more attractive to better players if they get a half decent run in Europe every second or third season.

However, non OF teams have been incredibly weak in Europe for a long time punching well below their weight. It seems that any team who finishes 3rd or 4th one season, becomes rubbish the next season.

Gretna even trumped that by going out of business the season after they qualified for Europe.

Maybe we really have to take a good hard look at what is wrong with Scottish football, where the OF are propping up the rest.

Real shame they went out so early, but you either stay in or you don't.

Wow, I'm in awe of your wisdom!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist as that is a statement from the Ministry of Bleedin' Obvious that trumps most of the mighty Coleman's.

Or were you being ironic?
