Fletcher wins young player

Recommended Posts

Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher has been named the Scottish Football Writers' young player of the year.

The 21-year-old has scored 14 goals this season and won his first Scotland cap against Croatia in March.

It is the third time in four years the award has gone to a player from Easter Road - Scott Brown and Derek Riordan having previously picked up the prize.

Fletcher will receive the award on Sunday, with Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar getting player of the year.

Birmingham City striker James McFadden won the inaugural award for international player of the year.

The 25-year-old turned in several excellent displays for Scotland during the failed campaign to reach this summer's European Championship.

Celtic's Aiden McGeady was the Clydesdale Bank Premier League choice for best young player, while he won both player and young player of the year in the PFA Scotland awards.

Good to see McGeady not getting this from the writers. And well done to McFadden , his Scotland displays warrrant that.
