I know hes young but I dont see the hype in this boy. Another boring side, back pass merchant who really offers nothing.

 

Hope things improve but right now I dont see it.

Yet some want us to throw more youngsters into the first team.

You could pick any young Rangers player out of a hat at the moment and probably say the exact same thing.

 

Another underperforming area of the club has been the academy, coaches etc involved in that set up 

 

Then again, any talent that does come through that's actually any good, will be hoovered up at a young age by wealthier clubs, I.e Oliver Goodbrand currently in talks with Newcastle.

I am in agreement regarding Rice. Never good enough. I was talking to one of the other lot who said to me that our youth set up was poor, and I agree. But when I asked him what superstars they had produced he could name none. Scotland just does not produce players like it did in the past. In countries where they can play their way out of poverty football is still producing, but here even the poorest kids have mobiles and xboxes.

Same numbers just dont play the game now , and its only going to get worse.

To be fair the youth/amateur set up in Scotland nowadays does them no favours. After u18 if they don’t get picked to play for any of the u21 sides affiliated to any of the clubs in the pyramid structure they have to go to amateur. Many aren’t ready for amateur football and others just pack the game in altogether. I believe there may be moves afoot to change this though

We de facto threw the game away yesterday with a line-up that included two attacking players. Whatever Rice's role was supposed to be, he had hardly any option to be creative, as most balls went over his head or there were no players running into spaces.

He's still technically a youngster for another 5 years!
