[FT] Rangers 0 - 0 Athletic Club

Recommended Posts

It's Thursday, anything can happen. Yet, I started to expect nothing at all, so I can't get disappointed. During the play-off days, I get my mental happiness elsewhere ... e.g. semi-finals of the German ice-hockey championship playoffs. After beating Straubing Tigers 4-1 in the Best of Seven quarter-final play-offs, the Eisbären sweeped the semi-final series against arch enemy Adler (Eagles) Mannheim 4-0, delivering a crushing home defeat to them last Tuesday.

35/1 Rangers to win one nil and Dessers the scorer .

Just getting ready to go home from Glasgow plenty of support for tonight's opponents all noisy and colourful in their red and white tops

Here's hoping our Jekyll & Hyde team turn up with the right attitude tonight, and that our interim manager can pick the right side in the right formation and make the right subs at the right times, and that our opponent take us lightly (I assume they had us watched v Hibs so might think this will be easy!) and we manage to take a chance or two and our keeper remembers what his gloves are for. If we get all of the above going our way, we can have another incredible experience at Ibrox on a Thursday night.

Anything less than this and I really fear what this could end up.

I am hoping we go to a back 5 with Tav Sterling Propper Balogun Jefte, then I expect 3 in midfield of Barron Raskin and maybe Lawrence (would prefer Hagi) with Cerny supporting Dessers up front but I would probably go for Igamane myself. I expect Butland to keep the gloves.

Jeezo typing that and having to put 2 players in for Souttar and Diomande really weakens the side. Cant think of anyone else who can play in Dio's position if we are playing 3 in there. Hoping i've forgotten someone decent!!

Mon the Gers, lets pull out another cracking performance.

It's hard to find reasons -or even a reason- to approach tonight's match with anything other than trepidation. After the performance against the Leith XI, I expect very little against the Basques, and that irrespective of selection, and shape.

In particular, the Williams boys , on either flank give me cold sweats, and shivers.  It's not the DTs, it's The Fear, as it's known by some, on here.  Both lads are capable of tearing our backs a new one. The younger sibling, Nico, will probably be the next 100M+ player.

We'll need to double or treble up on both flanks. The days of the early reducer are in the past, alas.

We have had decent, some more than decent, performances in European competition - Govan glory nights against more fancied sides. I do not propose to take that history to the bank.

Determination, perspiration, concentration, inspiration, and ambition,  are all needed, all at the same time, all from the off, and all for the full 90.

It would help if a leader with command  on the pitch, somehow emerged, fully formed.

It's a beautiful night for football. I hope, against hope, that it ends well.
