I think that’s right. A current exception is the Championship in England. Great competition this season, it’s only now that four clubs are beginning to pull away.

I actually meant to put "top" leagues as you'll find lower leagues can and are competitive, like the English Championship (even our championship can be competitive at times).

The Championship is unusual this season. Normally there’s a runaway winner with the occasional surprise getting the last playoff place.

I’m only familiar with two other leagues, Scottish 2 and Highland League Neither is competitive in the sense of uncertain contest for the likely winners.

I have the old fashioned view that every match is a contest.

I knew it was a mistake to indulge him :)

Yeah, good at asking questions, but terrible at answering them.

He did admit to a lack of knowledge of other leagues, so his soul / complete data-set is Scottish football.

It's a wonder he entered a conversation / debate regarding league reconstruction with no knowledge of how other leagues work or how competitive they are as a result of their structure.

Maybe alterior motives but that would be derailing the thread.

I think the overall response to the thread shows that most who entered the debate believe that reconstruction needs to happen for the development of the Scottish game.

Not that it's going to happen anytime soon as some clubs won't vote for less OF games and sponsors and TV companies won't back it either.

This is another classic league reconstruction thread.

Most who enter the thread can't answer the following questions:

What is the problem with Scottish football?

Why does it follow from the existing structure?

Why would an alternative structure improve the situation?

Even when someone has an answer you can guarantee that they will tap out after minimal pushback on their suggestion.
