Club Statement: UEFA charge

Recommended Posts

While there have been a couple of strong statements, what there needs to be is strong action by the club against these idiots. Whatever the real meaning behind the banner, (and what is the point if nobody knows what it was supposed to mean) what is undeniable is that it was making a political statement and not a "come on Rangers get intae them" statement and the UB chose a UEFA match to do this when the consequences were absolutely certainly going to be a big financial hit at best and a stadium closure at worst.

A 30K Euros fine just for the banner. This was a premediated act by the UB to make a statement nobody even understands, knowing full well there would be consequences by UEFA that would cost the club in both cash and credibility. That is the ultimate in self-harm, and by their actions they actively are working against the club they claim to love. I cant see how that works in their minds?

Until the E30K fine is repaid to the club by them, all privileges, tickets, allowances should be removed. No banners allowed, no drums or megaphones and all known leaders of the group banned from the stadium for a time, say till the end of the season. No further negotiation about safe-standing or expanding their area until a full year has passed without any cases raised by domestic or European authorities. Any further repeat of pyro, banners, smoke, flares etc sees the whole section shut down and returned to genuine supporters. There is certainly enough of a list waiting from what we hear. I term a supporter as someone who only wants good for the club, and does nothing deliberately and premeditated to harm it. The UB can no longer claim to be genuine supporters when they continue to harm the club's credibility and finances.

I think that people (not, necessarily, 'The People') and fans agree with UEFA, in this instance, and not vice versa.

It matters little who agrees and who objects, because, it is UEFA's ba' and UEFA's bat, and it has set down its rules. Whether you accept them them, or not, or whether you believe its interpretation of those rules is flawed, is largely irrelevant, if you want to play....

Of course, in addition, the Club owns the stadium, and permits access to fans and others on the basis of terms and conditions, of which it is in charge. Break these strictures, and the Club is able to eject you, and/or ban you, permanently.

Quite.

Many have expressed an opinion on the banner.

Few really have an opinion on the banner.

An opinion has been formed for them.

I see the green mob have held a banner and demonstration outside the police station near Celtic park moaning about criminalization of fans what a pathetic bunch I just hope our idiots don’t follow suit

Football, a historically working-class sport, has been turned into a glossy corporate commodity. The game’s institutions claim to be ‘inclusive’, yet they enforce a strict monoculture, where only certain political and cultural narratives are permitted.

Why do so many Rangers supporters want to enforce U.E.F.A.s strict monoculture?

Is it that critics of the banner are out of touch with working class culture? (Please state your middle class occupation to disagree)
