It supposedly originated from a conversation between the actress Lillie Langtry and the Bishop of Worcester. They were at a country house weekend party and on Sunday morning before church, they went for a stroll in the garden. On their walk, the bishop cut his finger on a rose thorn. Over lunch, Lillie enquired about his injury, asking: "How is your prick?" To which the bishop replied: "Throbbing," causing the butler to drop the potatoes.” I hope that’s true. Some things are just too good to check out! I think I've heard somewhere in the recesses of my memory that Lily Langtree was indeed the actress in question, though as you infer, it may be apocryphal.

Would the butler be serving the potatoes or would it be some poor soul lower down the hierarchy of domestic servants?

The year before, my late uncle earned East Fife the biggest transfer fee received by a Scottish club up until that date, 26,000 sterling, in 1950. He went South to play in the same forward line as Stanley Mathews and Stan Mortensen. Bringing it back to Rangers. That same year, my uncle played for East Fife (manager: Scot Symon) in the Scottish Cup Final and as a forward, came up against the Iron Curtain. The likes of George Young, Tiger Shaw and Willie Woodburn. Predictably, Rangers (manager: Bill Struth), kept a clean sheet and won the Cup.

BlackSocksRedTops 3,933 Posted Monday at 18:00 Share Posted Monday at 18:00 Can someone please clarify an offside question. For their first goal yesterday, Maeda is about a yard offside when the ball is shuffled to their right side. The next phase sees the ball lobbed into the back post for him to head home. When are phases active/inactive? Should this not be called back as he goes on to effect the next phase ie. The goal.
