Devil's advocaat 1,768
I do agree though, I'd be pretty happy if we got him.

I would be in favour, too, but I suspect it would be devisive - either for his style or his horrible spell as a player with us.

One was because the player made a mistake in how he received the ball, and one actually went against his direct orders. The other was a mix-up. It was clear mistakes that could be rectified. And a lack of quality. So, get good players and you’ll be a good manager. Wow.

He mentioned it, saying every manager he spoke to said 'do it your way' so there are no regrets. It's a bit of a nonsense, though. As was mentioned on MNF, coaches like Dyche and Allardyce aren't told to change plans when they get pumped every week. On MNF they broke down some of Southampton's big mistakes that cost them goals from build-up. One was because the player made a mistake in how he received the ball, and one actually went against his direct orders. The other was a mix-up. It was clear mistakes that could be rectified. And a lack of quality. Martin did mention looking at how he conveyed his message and that he would change things in future. But, the philosophy would remain. He mentioned how they didn't get the recruitment right, underestimating how athletic PL players were. He would make changes there in future. I always thought his philosophy was excellent, but I thought it impressive how he conveyed his philosophy and also how he broke down what didn't go well. He's the type we should approach. I feel this could be the best time to get him, otherwise he's out of our league with any success - they could only get Rodgers because he got Leicester relegated. Or, his career has already peaked and he'll be another dud... Not for me. I am with Jose on this one......philosophy doesn't matter, it is what you do when the team is on the pitch, ie how you adapt the team to win the game. I am all for that. Gio showed some brilliant flashes of this but not often enough. Edited 15 hours ago by Blue Moon
