Rangers takeover: Deal agreed in principle

The priority for the 49ers investment group will be profit above anything else.

It will seek to extract a return on investment. This is a stark contrast to covering losses by various means.

It is also far removed from Glasgow. If things go badly, on the pitch, then they will be far removed from any criticism. This is largely the case for the existing owners but it will be much worse with the next ones.

Yeah, that's one of the risks. At least the current owners have got an emotional connection and are happy to fund. There will be a number of pros and cons about the takeover. Let's just hope the cons are minimised.

I see the things I mentioned as certain but I understand why others will think they are possible rather than certain.

I think the risky part is the idea that they will be able to switch from loss to profit while competing for the Scottish league.

What each and every fan has to weigh up, in their opinion, are the risks associated with any takeover more or less than the risks of staying with the current regime.

One is known (risks of status quo) and one unkown, we can speculate about the consortium's intentions but they'll remain largely unknown until they have control of the club.

However, as they are currently in control of Leeds, there is evidence available of how they are running / investing in Leeds.

The podcast I posted the other day also offers insight to how they would go about turning us around.

I am not 100% convinced with this takeover, but I'm convinced it's less risky than sticking with the status-quo.

There's only 2 players in this game, we need to back one.

When you look at Celtic’s line up last night they had very good players in every position the way we are we just can’t match them the present board have done their best they might be successful business men in their own field but are clueless when it comes to running a football club the loans are much appreciated but they have run their course we need change and néed it now or as soon as possible .

We could argue the toss, the pros and cons, the benefits and disbenefits, the possibilities and probabilities, the certainties and risks, the positives and the negatives, our likings and aversions, and have these debates up every hill in San Francisco, and down again -on foot, on cable car, or in Bullitt's bloody Mustang- and the only things surer than guns are iron are

1. we would never reach a consensus

2. we would have no influence, whatsoever, over the disposal and acquisition of shares.

The sales seem to be proceeding, with some expedition, and unless

a. the saviours or the carpetbaggers -your call- cannot get agreements from current owners to purchase 51% of shares, or

b. due diligence uncovers something so significant as to require that 'all bets are off',

are likely to conclude in early Summer.

Of course, I have discounted illegal activity from  La Curva Fedele, or whomever - crimes such as blackmail, kidnap, or assassination.

Buckle up, brothers. Lets hope we enjoy the ride.

If the takeover is done I would bet there will be a complete overhaul of the retail side shirts etc one thing that the yanks do well is marketing something we’re hopelessly inept at I say this after reading the other mob are opening the empty Next shop in Glasgow’s Argyle street that the wife tells me is a very big shop and all we have in the city centre is the Castore dookit at Sauchiehall street

If I remember correctly we do well from our current merchandise contract but agree, we need more shops. Castore are one of the leading sportswear manufacturers and they are opening shops all over the UK.

I know Falkirk, Ayr and Livingston have (relatively) new Rangers shops but can't speak for Glasgow City Centre.

They also demonstrate that even playing in Scotland that there is money to be made. Off course, this is dependent on being successful,  being well run, having the correct structure in place and having a working player trading model.

We need a much bigger range of products.  The possibilities are endless.
