What's your worst loss on the field of play?

Recommended Posts

Quite a list if you look at the record books yesterday's defeat wasn't the first  nightmare result since 2012 we've had quite a few from or city chums then again there's Europe we had a few disasters under Walter then we had a league cup final when we got clobbered 7-1 fast forward a few years then it was Spurs turn to thrash us then we all know about Berwick funny thing about those last three thumpings was we had the same manager  Scot Symon who didn't get sacked probably because he was to scared to stand up to the then chairman old Lawrence now it's the turn of the spiders to humiliate us now it's a case of who carries the can have we the funds to do the right thing and sack the manager or do we just carry on stumbling from one crisis to another .

By the way the 7-1 defeat was the worst i ever seen .

  • Rousseau changed the title to What's your worst loss on the field of play?

I attended yesterday and also attended Berwick Rangers in January'67; however, neither makest it into my worst Rangers watching experience.

My choice is the quarter-final Anglo-Scottish Cup second leg away to Chesterfield in October'80. It was the death of a side that had secured the ECWC, three League championships, two trebles and, four-five other trophies. The season before, Rangers had eliminated Juventus and PSV from the European Cup. We went out at the quarter-final stage by an odd goal against a very good Cologne side. Nottingham Forrest Gaffer, Brian Clough thanked Rangers for completing the hard yards that allowed his side to secure the cup with the big ears.

I had been on a week long exercise in Exmoor, the EndEx' was the morning of the game and the post exercise admin' culminated at around two in the afternoon. You are in your own time now had been bellowed and I jumped into the car for a four hour drive to a sodden Derbyshire. I got in, stood on an open terrace, got well and truly drookit and watched the McCloy, Jardine, DJ, Doddie, Tam McLean, ..... etc take the field. We got skelped by an English third tier club, three-zip. Further, DJ had a penalty saved too.

Chesterfield remains my most miserable experience.

The League Cup Final catastrophe is the worst but Chesterfield is next.

The three SC defeats to lower league/relegation opposition have been awful. None as bad as losing to ICT, though.

A couple of six goal batterings by Aberdeen and a five goal defeat by Raith Rovers haven’t been pleasant. In mitigation, that Raith wasn’t the Raith we know now

Yesterday is the worst of me closely followed by losing at home to Motherwell that meant 10-in-a-row wouldn't happen. The Scottish Cup final loss to Hearts a few weeks later is also worth a mention.

The lower league losses hurt especially at home to Annan, the 3-2 defeat at Alloa in the shity wee cup semi-final and then the defeat to Raith in the final of the same compition.

The home and away defeats to Motherwell in the SPL play-offs also hurt.

Too many scuddings at the hands of that lot to mention.

I do remember another leathering we got from a very good Dundee side back in the early sixties

That was an honourable and therefore bearable defeat.

Was it not Kilmarnock? Ally Mitchell scored, was the 2nd May 1998. Only reason I know was because it was also my Gran's funeral too that day. Cheery stuff I know! Was also the break up of the team I had grown up idolising
