The premise of your post is correct but Davie Weir isn't leaving Brighton to come and work for Rangers any time soon, if we had tried to get him a few years ago, it may have been a different story.

McCann has been a failure as a coach at Falkirk and a few other lower level clubs, so shouldn't be considered in my opinion (I liked McCann as a player and he is also a decent pundit).

The issue we have is that historically, we haven't had or currently got anyone at the club qualified to make footballing recruitment decisions (players and managers- the jury is still out on Koppen).

We've won 3 domestic trophies in 10 years but have gotten to the business end of EL in the last 5 or 6 seasons, including a final that we should have won.

Competing (which will lead to winning) in Scotland shouldn't be difficult. Beat the rest consistently then the OF games take care of themselves.

Another trophy-less season and another Celtic treble and some seem to think it'll magically get better next season. Spoiler alert - unless we change the manager, it won't.

If you read David Holmes book he mentions that when he joined the Rangers board it was akin to a Bowling Club Committee - sadly, he'd say the same if he was on the board at the moment.

Until we rid ourselves of the amateurs like the Parks, we're only going in one direction, and it ain't forwards.

You're not advancing your argument, Cammy, if you're comparing our current board with the one in the mid-80s. Whatever their faults, to compare them with a "bowling club committee" is utter nonsense. Putting words in David Holmes mouth is also mendacious at best. Our board are far from exempt to criticism, clearly they've made mistakes. But it's no bowling club committee, there are some serious people on the board and involved with the club's ownership. I don't know Graeme Park, but Douglas Park is a serious businessman and someone who doesn't suffer fools. Have a gander at their accounts and see if you still think they're "amateurs".

There are many, many examples of people who have been successful in business being unable to transfer that success into running a football club. There are many reasons for that, the main one being how success is judged. Rangers could lose a fortune, but win the league, and most people will judge that a success. Unfortunately we had an owner who ran the club that way. This current board, for all the bad decisions they've made, want the club to stop losing money. Very few supporters will view that as success, fewer still seem to really care, but if we all want a club to support/criticise in the future it's imperative they achieve it. Our losses off the pitch are currently of far more concern to me than our losses on it.

For what it's worth I think Clement will go, I doubt he'll be our manager at the start of next season, short of winning the Europa League, and even that might only buy him until October.

This is what I believe too. It will be cheaper to get rid of him and his staff come the end of the season and what benefits on the field do we get from changing the manager now? We would likely need an interim manager, which would cost money too. That interim manager cannot win us the league, cannot win us any cups and Clement is not likely to lose 2nd place so the gains will not be 'on-field' gains.

They'll probably use the time between now and the end of the season to source some possible replacements to come in at the end of the season and are hoping the situation doesn't get too toxic, which the weekends result won't have helped with. Just to add, I'm not saying its the right idea, or I agree with it, its just my thoughts on the situation. The board obviously feel they can take the risk that people will still buy tickets and renew season books with Clement in charge.

We'll see if the board will continue taking that risk the next time there is a poor result

You did  I never said we should sack managers every season, only the Clement should be removed.[sic]

Where did I say that you said that?

I'm worried that you have misrepresented my post.

If you are happy with Clement then fine, that's your opinion and you are more than entitled to it. Those who want Celemet sacked are just as entitled to their opinion.

Some people just deride the former as magical thinking.

The reason I place so much emphasis on Europe is because it is the only way to raise the profile of the club. When Souness and Gerrard were in charge, players wanted to come here because of the reputation of the manager. I doubt anyone will want to come to Rangers because of Derek McInnes. Ok, he may win us the league and a cup or two, but who would care outside of Scotland. Maybe it's because I reside in England but I get sick of those down here who think we are playing in a pub league; if we do well in Europe then that perception changes. If we do end up with McInnes he will only do it with Scottish players; I can't see him having the kind of quality signings at his disposal that Keltic have been able to attract.

Our (supposed) model now is that the club signs players, not the manager so I would be very surprised if Koppen tore up his work to fit McInnes(or any other Scottish/British manager) and his need for players from Scotland. The manager will have a say, but I would hope he would be picking from players that have been sourced by Koppen's team.
