[FT] Rangers 0 - 1 Queen's Park

Recommended Posts

It's kind of sickening to note that not only did we hand them the title three times on the trot, but with that also the ability to reap the rewards WE achieved in Europe, i.e. direct entry to the CL without qualifiers.

IMHO, we need someone who understands the task at hand, i.e. Scottish league titles. Be that Muscat or someone else. Hence, there should be Scots involved at some point, McCann, Weir or the like. I have no idea what sort of input Rae has, but it seemingly is not enough. As it stands, we're a project club that simply has no time for being a project club. Not in the here and now. And we have neither to scout Europe etc. for special talent, we need solid people who can do a job in Scotland. In that respect, it is truly amazing (in the worst way imaginable) that they snatch up supposedly weak Japanese guys who run rings around Scottish fridge throwers and score goals for fun.

The premise of your post is correct but Davie Weir isn't leaving Brighton to come and work for Rangers any time soon, if we had tried to get him a few years ago, it may have been a different story.

McCann has been a failure as a coach at Falkirk and a few other lower level clubs, so shouldn't be considered in my opinion (I liked McCann as a player and he is also a decent pundit).

The issue we have is that historically, we haven't had or currently got anyone at the club qualified to make footballing recruitment decisions (players and managers- the jury is still out on Koppen).

We've won 3 domestic trophies in 10 years but have gotten to the business end of EL in the last 5 or 6 seasons, including a final that we should have won.

Competing (which will lead to winning) in Scotland shouldn't be difficult. Beat the rest consistently then the OF games take care of themselves.

Another trophy-less season and another Celtic treble and some seem to think it'll magically get better next season. Spoiler alert - unless we change the manager, it won't.

If you read David Holmes book he mentions that when he joined the Rangers board it was akin to a Bowling Club Committee - sadly, he'd say the same if he was on the board at the moment.

Until we rid ourselves of the amateurs like the Parks, we're only going in one direction, and it ain't forwards.

How much magical thinking is involved in the demands to change the manager every season?

You have hit a lot of nails on the head there. Weir isnt coming near the SPL. Agree about McCann, very honest likeable guy and a cracking player but not the answer.

Some middle parts of your post have now made me sway towards around 70/30 against Clement, there is nothing in almost 12 months now (Since Dingwall and Dens defeats) that gives me confidence that he can get near a league title - in fact Im more in the camp that it will regress further.

I havent read David Holmes book but it would be very interesting to read what he did to turn things around and what his vision was - it couldnt have been rocket science with even less money available in those days per se. Yet he was also up against 3 maybe 4 teams of much better quality (was thinking if Hearts would be included with Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and Celtic in the mid 80s). Perhaps those who witnessed the earlier to mid 80s would have far better insight on this.

Im not saying Clement out yet but if we pulled the plug I wouldnt be shouting from the roof tops its the wrong decision. Only a Mass upturn in our away form for "minimum" the rest of the season would get me more on board again...(and I hate chopping and changing managers unless it duds like Beale and Pedro then those do the hiring have to be blamed)

Bit it's not every season though is it. Not you like you get anything wrong or misrepresent a post.

I didn't misrepresent anything.

Your refusal to discuss the point of substance just looks like trolling.

You did  I never said we should sack managers every season, only the Clement should be removed. I've said previously we were too quick to sack Gio.

I refuse to discuss with trolls who don't want discussion. You're good at quoting parts of the post and not in context. You're also good at asking questions but not answering. So there is little / no reason to indulge in a discussion with you.

If you are happy with Clement then fine, that's your opinion and you are more than entitled to it. Those who want Celemet sacked are just as entitled to their opinion.

It would benefit the discussion if you could give reasons (other than not sacking managers every season) as to why keeping Clement is a better option than removing him.

I believe I've given my reasons for wanting him removed, let's hear your counter argument.

Craig Houston has a two part, indepth interview with David Holmes available on YouTube - well worth watching / listening to - about 2hrs in total.

When I have time I'll post my memories of his stewardship.

After our last shock home Scottish Cup against Hamilton, we travelled to Tynecastle to face Hearts in the league, just like we are on Sunday.

That resulted in a very impressive 5-2 victory. Wonder if we can expect the same reaction on Sunday......
