Manchester United vs Rangers

Did the Lanny fuel you with enough courage to join in with the others invading the pitch to challenge the opposing fans to well, shake hands?

Here, in deepest darkest Lanarkshire, Lanliq was correctly regarded as tonic wine with considerable medicinal properties.

We travelled down to Manchester aboard the Strathclyde Uni Union self drive mini-bus. The case of Lanny on the charabanc had been placed there by a Pharmacist and all present had the necessary prescription. Old Trafford has changed on numerous occasion this last half century, it used to have a white picket line wooden fence that ran around the track. We stood in the Enclosure behind the picket next to the Stretford, many other Rangers supporters appeared most anxious to gain access to said terrace, probably to experience a better view of the game?

It was most oft' referred to as, 'a bottle party'.

Aye, this outbreak of confidence among our support gives me the fear. Man Utd are having a poor season by their standards, but they've still got a hell of a squad, some genuinely world class players and they've shown recently they can compete with the very best when they concentrate. I'd take a draw right now without any hesitation.

I dont think they have any world class players. Fernandes is their best but I wouldnt say he is world class. Diallo is on fire and Mainoo is alright but other than that they are poor. The defenders arent great and the keeper has a mistake in him every game.

They will start as favourites but for us its the cliché of playing the game and not the occasion...play the team in front of us and not the name.

World class is a difficult term to quantify far less agree on. For me they have players that would be welcome at almost every other club in the world, that's what I mean by world class. Fernandes as you mention, but also Casemiro, Erikson and Martinez. Mainoo and de Ligt would get into most sides as well. In truth most of them aren't playing well just now, relatively speaking. I think even players like Maguire and Hojlund are significantly better than we face every week.

As has been said the pressure will all be on Man Utd, so that's in our favour.

Casemiro was a Rolls Royce world class midfielder at Real Madrid - I give you that but his legs have gone. Erikson at Spurs bordered World Class but again is almost finished. Martinez and De Ligt are good but not WC for me. I really like Mainoo but is still raw. Yet the key point is none of them can perform in this 3-4-3 the manager plays.

You have a point about them being on a different stratosphere compared to what we play week in week out but not so much of what we faced in Europe.

Hate to be pessimistic but I don't see anything other than a defeat realistically. We do tend to punch above our weight in Europe but I just don't see it. Diallo Hojlund etc will have too much for us

The same Diallo who was so average for us not too long ago.

United raise their game against the bigger clubs  -  witness Anfield and Emirates recently. I expect them to do the same on Thursday.

I hope not as raising their game in these scenarios seems to result in them taking a somewhat defensive approach and our recent performances away from home against defensive minded sides is not reassuring.

I'm sure we must have some dirt on Diallo from his brief spell with us. Enough for a bit of sledging to put him off his game
