The Rangers Winter 2025 Transfer Rumours and Deals - Thread

Since Dessers lost his place in the side to Igamane we've started scoring more goals as a team, I don't think that's a coincidence. In October, with Dessers our starting 'no. 9' we scored 10 goals in 6 games, so 1.66 goals a game, in November we scored 9 in 5 games, so 1.8 goals a game. In December, with Igamane leading the line, we scored 18 goals in 8 games, so 2.25 goals per game and in January, excluding yesterday because of the quality of opposition, we've scored 13 goals in 5 games, so 2.6 goals per game.

I don't think there's a which hunt for Dessers, I don't think he's being hounded, in fact I think he remains popular with the support, even with those of us who recognise his limitations. Igamane is young, inexperienced, barely speaks English and is adapting to a new culture, country and league. Yet surely everyone agrees Rangers look a better side with him in it?

So how do you explain Dessers being booed onto the pitch and booed yesterday when the teams were announced?

Sadly, there is a significant amount of fans (at home games) who dislike Dessers and are very vocal about it.

As for your assessment regarding whether we look a better team, that's subjective. We've looked a good team when playing at home most of the season, and looked horrific away from home. Whether Igamane or Dessers leads the line, that narrative is the same.

They offer different styles and as someone else said earlier, it's maybe worth giving them a run playing together. Imagine having your top 2 scorers on the pitch at the same time......

If the same measures had been put on McCoist, or Hateley ever other season, they would have been hounded out in no-time.

They almost were. I always thought McCoist would come good. I’d happily have got shot of Hateley then he “won the league” last game of the season against Aberdeen and early in the next banged in two against celtic and never looked back.

Dessers is an enigma. He scores from difficult opportunities. Easy chances he misses preposterously, the latest being yesterday.  He can score from easy chances but only if he makes them difficult first by stumbling about before conjuring up a redeeming finish.

@JohnMc put it rather well above and also in a different topic.

How do you explain the crowd turning on Cerny a couple of months or so ago? Or on Tav? You're a bluenose, you know how it goes, the Ibrox crowd can turn on any player if they have a poor run, no matter what they might have done before that. You might not believe this, CammyF, but some of our support have it in for the manager and criticise him constantly, we're a hard audience to please, what can I tell you about the vagaries of our support...  That said I didn't hear anyone booing Dessers yesterday. I did hear quite a few groans when he missed that chance in the first half.

Anyway, home or away we score more with Igamane leading the line.

If the quip about the manager is aimed at me, I don't air it at matches, it's confinded to mesasgeboards.

Dessers name was booed when the teams were being announced yesterday.

I wonder what the points total is with Dessers leading the line v Igamane leading the line? I'd bet without checking is almost identical.

I couldn't help myself...

Dessers' first 11 League games, compared to Igamane's last 11 league games. Both 'led the line' during those two periods.

I think @JohnMc's point stands, re: team goals.

GP W D L Pts Team Goals Individual Goals Individual Assists
Dessers 11 7 1 3 22 16 4 1
Igamane 11 7 3 1 24 27 9 1

So we won the same amount of games, lost 2 more when Dessers started and drew 2 more when Igamane started. So almost identical (2 points better off).

So both John and my point stand. We score more goals when Igamane starts but don't benefit points wise.

What's the split between home and away games?

Home: Dessers (18 pts, from 6 games), Igamane (15 pts, from 5 games).

Away: Dessers (4 pts, from 5 games), Igamane (9 pts, from 6 games).

So more evidence of where our problems lie, no matter who leads the line.......
