NK was appointed Director of Recruitment, which is his background; let him do that. And, maybe when he's had a few years experience then he can make the step up.

Yeah, my criticism was directed at the appointment rather than NK. Just another in a long line of lazy appointments from a board who clearly lack imagination or determination to move us forward.

The reality is that our financial situation seriously limits our ability to recruit experience and proven quality.

 

The executive profile we are looking for will more than often pass on any offer we might make them. 

 

For example, you are asking a CEO candidate to make us great again on a  shortening shoestring whilst the main rival is flush and been successful for many years. Oh, and by the way, you'd better get it sorted by Friday or you'll have one of the most impatient and unrealistic fan bases in the UK, on your back. Ask John Bennett's wife.

I don't think fans questioning Koppen's ability to multi-task / split himself over two important roles is a sign of impatience or being unrealistic. 

 

If our finances dictate that we are unable to fill critical roles, then we are closer to closing the doors and turning the lights out than many of us think.

 

At this point, filling these roles is more important than replacing Tav, Dessers, Lawrence (et al), and all / any energy and finances need to be channelled into filling these roles.

 

Thats the board's responsibility, they need to deliver as if we don't or can't get the correct people in to run the club, then everything else becomes pointless.

We can fill them, of course.

It is about whom and if they can do the job to the level required with the resources available.

 

Regards recruitment of  executive management, unrealistic impatience will put a lot of good candidates off. Along with other issues.

 

The appointment of a competent and hardy CEO is for me, the priority for the club as a whole. Anything positive on the pitch this season, will be a bonus.

 

In the circumstances, getting the right person is extremely challenging.

 

The odds are that we will get a less than exceptional candidate. But hey, I guess we'll have a better idea in the next 2/3 weeks.

No, Creag Robertson was doing much of the administrative stuff before he resigned.

 

In fact the reason given previously for nothing have a sporting director/DOF/technical director after Ross Wilson left was because RFC wanted to split the role into two people (i.e. Koppen and Robertson) as it was too much work for one person.

 

Now they've decided again, one person (with no experience of much of the work) can do it.

 

It hardly inspires confidence but that in itself doesn't mean it's not the right appointment.

Agree but the show must go on, regardless whether we have someone for every position or not.   When we do get a new CEO, they will have to prioritise where they spend their time and energy.  It seems that the Board have seen enough in Koppen to elevate his role, and that at least makes a bit of sense ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

 

Ultimately it will be down to Koppen to deliver, and that will be the mandate for any new senior management /exec level appointee.
