Righty ho and away we go a simple question this Sunday between seasons 65/67 and 73/74 Celtic did nine in a row

between seasons 88/89 and 96/97 Rangers did nine in a row thinking about the  these achievements which one has the most merit .

During Rangers’ niar there was fairly consistent, sometime stern, competition from Aberdeen and at times Motherwell and Kilmarnock and the occasional flicker from Hearts and at the end, celtic started to become a nuisance.

Over their niar Hibs had a go, sometimes Dundee Utd and Aberdeen though not terribly seriously. I think Rangers did better in their niar than they did in ours so I conclude that Rangers’ niar has more merit than theirs. No bias or anything like that.

Wasn't around for their 9-in-a-row so can't really comment.

During ours we were challenged by mostly Aberdeen including 91 where we had to defeat them in the last game of the season to clinch 3 in a row.

What I'd say is I was disappointed that we didn't get 10. This could have been achieved if Terry Butcher hadn't broken his leg 1987/88 season when we finished a disappointing third.

Also, we should never had lost the league when going for 10. Maybe it was Walter saying he'd be stepping down, maybe it was Walter player some of the older players, maybe it was the injury to Negri but still annoys me that we didn't win 10.

The 64/65 season before Celtic embarked on 9iar, they finished 8th !!! We came in at 5th.

The season we won the ECWC was during their 9iar and we finished 3rd behind Aberdeen.

I'd settle for a Europa League repeat !!

Our league was relatively a lot better in European terms and much more competitive during the late 60's and early 70's. So I think it difficult to argue against it having more merit.

We had a much better team to provide opposition in those times and reached 2 European finals. Celtic, in the 90's were impovishered and provincial like opposition.

The least merit is reserved for the more recent 8.75iar.

Very good point regarding Europe. I meant to say in my post that during our 9-in-a-row we really should have done much better in Europe. The inaugural CL being the exception.

I would say  that the Celtic 65/67-73/74 was far superior to our run of leagues when we were practically buying the league and let’s not kid ourselves we overspent won the domestic titles apart from the first champions league our European record was dire over in the east end they dominated the league by playing really good attacking football as well as performing to the highest standards in European competition they even won the quiz ball show on the Telly.
