I read this article over the weekend and found it interesting. It's not an issue that is unique to Rangers but not investing in youth when we were demoted was a terrible decision.

As for promoting / developing them so they are ready for 1st team / squad is another discussion. I think we need to get the B-Team back into competitive leagues.

Hopefully it's something our new Chairman and new CEO put near the top of their "to-do lists".

Scottish youngsters often have a physical deficit compared to say, eg. English or German 17-20 year olds.

It makes competing with men so much more difficult.

We shouldn't be restricting ourselves to Scottish youths.

Not saying we should but you are on the back foot if you have to look further afield with the added complications that it entails. Eg. Homesick kids from Andalucia.

I think if you take Aribo and Bassey, it shows you don't have to look far.

They were obviously at the top end of the youth age bracket, but Bassey was signed as a B-Team player but quickly showed he had what was required.

That's the physicality and skill level we need to be targeting.

You do know that there’s no youth football in Scotland for over 18’s unless they’re playing for the youth team attached to one of the clubs throughout the farcical pyramid system?

Please can you explain what you mean by "attached to the pyramid system"?

I know that a few junior teams around my area have teams up to U20's level - my nephew plays for one

Junior teams aren't part of the pyramid structure as far as I am aware (i.e. they can't get into the league structure).

Open season on foreign signings throughout Europe is almost  killing off the opportunity for young homegrown players to come through the ranks.

Unfortunately there'll never be a proper restriction on foreigners, UEFA would never allow it because there's no money in it.

Aribo was 23 when he joined.

Bassey, 20 is a better example and he showed how important physicality can be.

Beneath the lowland league & the highland league are a lot of  juniors/ amateur teams in divisions which make up the pyramid structure. Most/all have u20 teams.

if teenagers can’t get into one of those u20 teams they have to go amateur. Many aren’t ready for the physical side of amateur football. Ridiculous set up
