[FT] Olympiacos 1 - 1 Rangers (Dessers 64)

Challenging domestically shouldn't be the chore it has become. Winning the vast majority of league games outwith the OF shouldn't be outwith our capabilities if we are coached correctly. Then the OF games take care of themselves (if we are approaching them with momentum and confidence).

Currently we are struggling to beat the rest and approaching OF games with trepidation and this is showing in our performances.

There have been small signs that Clement could be the person to lead us, but these have been far too fleeting and often in Europe rather than domestically.

We are miles off challenging domestically and that is unacceptable.

Same under Gerrard and Gio. For a number of years. We need to find a happy medium between being competitive in Europe but not at the cost of domestic success.

For years when we were strong domestically I craved European success (in terms of exceeding expectations). But now we have it, its soured greatly by our pathetic domestic record since Gerrard walked in the door.

Until he changes his formation for league matches we will continue to struggle.

Would agree with most of this to some extent, but it is worth reminding ourselves what Gerrard inherited.  He quickly got us some credibility back in Europe and found a way to beat Celtic on a somewhat regular basis. He won us the league whilst continuing to build our European stature.

There is no denying we should have won more domestic trophies under SG but 55 was the "holy grail' and he delivered that in some style (unbeaten in the league).

Gio taking us to a EL Final was an amazing achievement and one I'll never forget. The run that year was unforgettable. He also won the Scottish Cup beating Celtic in the semi-final after extra-time 3 days after a European match.

Gio should have won us the league, when SG left we were ahead in the league and had just beaten Celtic 1-0 at Ibrox with a covid ravaged squad. However, not winning it is probably a direct consequence of getting to EL Final.

There is no doubting we should have challenged more under them, but since Gio left, we are regressing dramatically and even 7 points in EL can't hide that.

The board can take criticism for the shambles off the field, the continued lack of leadership and bad appointments but we are regressing as a team and in my opinion that's down to Clement and we really should be doing better domestically.

You see the price of failure last night we earned £126,000 for a draw chicken feed in comparison to the money on offer in the champions league we really are up the Swanee without a paddle.

You're absolutely correct, but if we had gotten their draw...

We couldn't beat a very ordinary Kiev team in the qualifying rounds.

They're currently bottom of our league (36th)!

That was a poor result, no doubt. We should be beating them.

But then we beat Malmo and Steaua, and should have beaten Olympiacos, all of which are not unlike the Bratislava, Young Boys, Brugge and Dynamo Zagreb that they play.

I think we could have won a game or two if we had their draw.

The writing was on the wall before Gerrard left. Look at the domestic results. We should have been out of sight before he left.

The most likely source of our problems was not backing Gerrard in the way that he expected. When that happened he started to think about leaving. The deterioration of the players follows from that.

Europe did not cost us the league in that season.
