compo 7,030
Here’s one for the fans of yesteryear the 1969 semi against a very good Aberdeen team with a defence marshaled by Martin Buchanan we played our best ninety minutes of that season that day at Parkhead a Johnston hatrick a couple from Penman and another from bunion Billy but the day’s best remembered for a display of centre forward play from Colin Stein he was superb that afternoon unplayable and against a very good defence we hammered them that day even their goal came from one of our own Jim Forrest.
Scott7 6,002
Martin Buchan was the Aberdeen defender. His father also Martin played for Buckie Thistle at outside or inside right, outstanding at that level. That Scottish Cup semi final was one of Stein’s best ever games under threat of suspension for the final. Most semi finals don’t stick in the memory, probably because they are over-shadowed by the finals or in a few cases because they are the end of the road. The only other one I remember is the 1-2 replay against Hibs 1958 and the notorious disallowed equaliser minutes from the end.

There was a brother George if I remember correctly it was around that time they perfected a first class offside trap infuriating to play against but very effective at catching out their opponents.
Gribz 850
Some Semi Finals stick for me. The 1996 Scottish Cup Semi at Hampden when we beat Celtic 2-1, that was a great game. The Laudrup lob to win it was excellent even though they tried to take him clean out. McCoist opened the scoring with a typical tap in after Robertson hit a shot and I think Marshall in goal laid it straight to McCoist. Plus the 92 Semi against against Celtic when we played about 83 minutes with 10 men - and Super Ally did it again with a strike from outside the box. buster. 5,185
SC'76 Motherwell 2up but we come back to win 3-2 with some direct fitbaw. Peter McCloy, assist king. I was a wee laddie listening to David Francey commentary. Edited November 2 by buster.
CammyF 8,079
I always remember the 1984 League Cup Semi-Final V Dundee United. Lost the 1st leg 1-0 at Tannidice but won 2-0 at Ibrox in 2nd leg. Sandy Clark scored the first goal to bring the tie level then Ian Redford chipped McAlpine for the winner. 26min highlight package ;
Scott7 6,002
Apart from Russell and Cooper and maybe McLoy man for man United had a better team. That’s judging McCoist on his form at the time.

It was a rough time being a Rangers fan in those days, somethings never change 😃

Nicky Walker would be the first I recall before signing Woods (not sure when Ginzburg came). Yet I remember McAlpine in his last season.
Gribz 850
The Semi Final of all time was probably the 1999 FA Cup semi at Villa Park when Giggsy scored that worldy to beat Arsenal and was part of the Treble. Bergkamp also missed a pen in the last minute of normal time. The fine lines that Man Utd got the treble was unreal.
