[FT] Rangers 1 (Lawrence 14) - 4 Lyon

Recommended Posts

Some reasonable moments but the difference in quality all too obvious in the end as we end up well beaten on the night. Bajrami a big positive but few more outfield players offered similar and, in the end, we're lucky it wasn't a worse score-line.

The team that finished the game underlined the lack of depth we have. Dowell offered nothing, Sterling isn't a creative player and Raskin still looks well short. I'm also puzzled as to why Igamane wasn't given some much needed experience. Lots of questions remain about our style.

Ultimately our season won't be decided with games against Lyon. However, we need to see the manager's team deliver steady improvement in terms of style, fitness, creativity and tempo. That may well take time but we can't wait forever. Onto Sunday for hopefully a better outcome.

I'm still waiting to see signs of a style. Tonight we passed the ball out to our full backs who simply hit long and hopeful balls into the box from deep positions. It was like watching a game from 2 years ago

That was a hard watch.  I didn't think any of our players played particularly poorly but their quality in the final third was light years ahead of ours.

The referee seemed to constantly favour Lyon.  We could've had a penalty for the tug on Dessers' shirt and definitely should've had a free kick for the foul on Diamonde right outside their box.

Barron has been an excellent addition but overall our midfield just isn't good enough.  Lawrence and Dowell would be nowhere near a good Rangers team.

For anyone scunnered I suggest reading the above links and resetting expectations.

We were a long shot tonight and it didn’t come off. Move on quickly and focus on the games and competitions where we can compete.

On reflection, are there any players in our team who are an upgrade on those they replaced?

We have regressed drastically over the last couple of seasons and the cost cutting is certainly impacting the quality of our players.

We said the same when we were embarrassed in the Champioms League.

This (EL) is meant to be our level and we've excelled recently, bow it looks we are also out our depth at this level.

Our level is against teams with similar financial clout playing in similar leagues regardless of what European competition they are in.

There are teams in the CL we could take.

We should've skelped Malmo about 5-0 a week ago.

No none are an upgrade.

We now only seem to sign out-of-contract players, misfit loans & anyone not costing an excessive transfer fee.

The result was there for all to see tonight
