Someone will have to explain this to me RE: the two penalty incidents from last weekend's game with Dundee.

 

RE: The first half non-penalty

 

"The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (3:2) deeming the onfield decision incorrect, noting that the Dundee defender fouled the Rangers attacker. Two panelists believed that the contact was not sufficient to merit the award of a penalty. The majority (3:2) believed the VAR was correct not to intervene while two panelists believed a penalty should have been awarded after a VAR intervention."

 

RE: The 2nd half penalty that was awarded

 

The panel (unanimously) supported the on-field decision, noting that the Dundee defender was caught on the wrong side and subsequently fouled the Rangers attacker.

 

Answers on a postcard please given the first incident clearly had more contact than the second...

 

I'm also rather confused that the majority felt the first incident on-field decision was incorrect but VAR not getting involved was correct

Interesting to note that the Swedish clubs (over 50% fan owned) successfully voted against using VAR in their domestic matches. 

 

A good Calvinist lot are the Swedes (apart from the Malmo manager, the bloke with a face like a Martian and Johan Mjallby).

I heard that yesterday in the game, probably explained why their players made no effort to hide shirt pulling and fouling in the box

I believe this is known as ‘marking your own homework’. So you can only really get something wrong if you want to admit to it.

Their explanation is confusing, maybe it was meant to be! 

 

For what it's worth, I thought the 1st one was more a penalty than the 2nd one (both pens though).

You look at the level of refereeing on the pitch and note that those on the panel are essentially of the same level as said referees, there is little doubt about the outcome of these things.

 

Alas, European refs are not much better, Thursday saw two rather blatant fouls on Dessers not given, apparently not even reviewed AFAIK.

 

BTW, has the Compliance Officer made redundant, or is he/she in hibernation till Kerrydale Street needs him/her again?

Thought all EL games had VAR?

there’s no VAR for Swedish domestic games as I understand
