How The Times covered 66-goal Boxing Day bonanza of 1963

Some great players - Denis Viollet, Albert Quixall, Bryan Douglas.

Some great Scots too - Billy Stevenson (should never have let him go) St John, Crerand, Morgan, Herd, Lochhead, Leggatt and no less than four capped ‘keepers, Bill Brown, Tommy Lawrence, Adam Blacklaw and Lawrie Leslie.

That number of Scottish ‘keepers might explain the goals deluge but two of them were in winning sides, Brown of all people let in four but ‘Spurs drew and only the ageing Leslie was a loser.

Don't forget that in those days forwards were allowed to shoulder charge the keeper, causing him to drop it; that may have contributed to the goal deluge too.

Not to forget defenders tackled like Zulu warriors  just have a look at the 1970 cup final replay between Leeds and Chelsea and not one booking in the game
