I’d say comparing our position to these clubs is nonsense. They can afford to do this. We can’t. No point in us paying Hagi to do nothing basically

I mean, Chelsea can't really afford not to sell those players, and more, with PSR rules, but I take your point.

It's not uncommon for players to be frozen out.

Like I posted above, I still get the impression Hagi doesn't fit in with what Clement wants, like mobility. Just because he's paid a lot doesn't mean we should shoehorn him in, to the detriment of the team - Davies would play every game if that was the case.

Hagi might not fit in with what he wants but freezing him out completely makes no sense

I've given you at least two possible reasons.

The problem with Hagi and Cantwell is that people know our stance and their stance. They can just sit out this week and make a last ditch super-low-key bid that we might be willing or simply have to accept.

The whole transfer business has turned ugly over the last decade, and we have been on the receiving end of some of the worst scenarios of it.

That's one of the problems. Another one is that everyone knows our poor financials.

Maybe, but I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this. What is super-obvious to us (as we deal with it 24/7) is not necessarily obvious to outsiders. What they do is just clever business ... and truth be told, we have done similar and would do similar as well.

Hagi would go missing for large parts of a game even during 55, and then pop up with a goal.

The injury was cruel on his part.

I do think the difference between him and Lawrence in the team would be negligible tbh, both can't run for toffee.

I'm not losing sleep over it though - the sooner we get in players who want to muck in the better.

I'll disagree. Any DOF worth his salt will know every clubs details, like we did with Proppers contract. Agents will also be more than aware of our situation, naive to think they won't be.

It is suggested to me (via WhatsApp, thus of unquestionable veracity), that the problem with Hagi, financially, is not the extra 5K GBP, per week he may be due for hitting a century of games, but the simultaneous triggering of a 1M Euro add on from the original acquisition.

I don't know, but it seems clear that the only way for either, or both, problems, if they exist, to fly off is to get rid of the player.

Brutal, sure, but probably necessary.
