Gersnet Rangers All-time XI | Day 9: Forwards

Recommended Posts

As it's the international break, I thought we could partake in a little exercise doing the rounds on social media.

Every day we'll pick the best all-time Rangers player for each position.

The most voted player gets added to the lineup.

Yesterday's winner: Laudrup

Day 9: Forwards.

Who are the best all-time Rangers Forwards? Pick two.

[LCF - Day 9][RCF - Day 9]

Baxter - Gascoigne - Laudrup

Grieg

Robertson - Butcher - Gough - Jardine

Goram

It's McCoist and AN Other, no?

Hateley, Johnstone, Caniggia, Brand, Stein, Jelavic, Novo, Forrest, Boyd, Miller, Arveladze, Morelos, Mols, Wallace ... Negri?

You have to get Dado Prso on your list 👍

And Gordon Durie who I would have as an unsung hero. Did lots of hard work and always good for goals.

Many, many players to pick from here and we may struggle to find agreement on at least one of the choices.

McCoist is a given - what a player he was. Yes, he could be a lazy, wasteful bugger at times but after Mo Johnston joined and he matured, I think he did improve his overall game.

His partner has to be Hateley for me. His arrival was an exercise in patience as he struggled for several months to win over the support.  Ashe finally found his feet, he really was a fantastic player - physically robust, top class in the air and blessed with enough pace and skill to cause problems for defences at home and abroad.

Others since then have been superb: Mols was unplayable at times, Jelavic the ideal #9, Boyd's finishing was second to none and someone like Kenny Miller would suit our existing team down to a tee. But none are as good as Ally and Mark.

Its definitely Hateley and McCoist for me also.

I watched clips of Hateley the other day and he was just excellent, his pace went unnoticed at times.

Mols was class and a pure joy when he joined and could have gotten into the team bar that injury, he was never the same. And Negri was a phenomenon for 6 months - those two together would have ended up with about 100 goals in a season if fully fit.

Jardel - the one that never was!
