Steve Bruce for Wigan

Recommended Posts

Birmingham is a job that I would never want to take on. It looks like a poisoned chalice if you ask me. No real ambition.

Yip, the problem is that there are so many clubs in the premiership and championship with the same ambition of trying to establish themselves as a top 10 club but they are all cancelling each other out. It needs serious invesntment plus a big name manager to do it - like Man City this season. Their support also help.

But then again Steve Gibson has probably been the best chairman in the EPL yet Middlesboro just cant get out of being a bottom half club.

Birmingham have a bit of potential but it will take multi millions, they basically need a new team.

Is that the same way as you told me to NOT bet on Eck being next Scotland manager when WS came back to Gers ? :fish:

.

Harsh. Trying to do a bear a favour:devil:

To be honest i dont think he'd shoot that low, how high he can realisticly aim is another thing but all his talk is saying he will stay in charge unless something he cant turn down appears:cheers:

Obviously just messing with you man !

I agree, Eck's stock has improved tremendously over this campaign and I am absolutely certain his stock has improved far beyond Birmingham.

Would like to see him stay with the national team though.

OK, so say he wants to goto an EPL club rather than stay with Scotland. Who, in England would hire him? The top 4 wouldn't go near him. Newcastle? Spurs are settled with Ramos now. Aston Villa? Doing well under O'Feel. Man City? Doing well under Eriksson.

Being honest, and this isn't an insult to Eck but he won't get near a top EPL club.

Whats to say a Villa or Newcastle job might come up in the next ten months or a top job in France? Football is an unpredictable business. I think his stock could get higher if he gets us to the World cup so i would wait and see what comes up in the next ten months. I doubt he'll be in any great rush to leave Scotland

True but I can't see it. If he lands himself the Villa or Newcastle job then fair play to him. I see Redknapp is rumoured to be wanted by Newcastle so that may leave the door open for Eck at Portsmouth.

What I was getting at more than anything is that Eck's stock has risen to the extent that he should be able to get offers from more ambitious teams than Birmingham. Pompey would be one. Is Allardyce on the way out of Newcastle then ?

No offence to Eck but you are right Gav, he won't get a top 4 club - but there is no reason why he couldn't get a mid-table club - the managerial merry-go-round happens frequently so there is no saying which job might open up in the next 10 months before WC qualifying begins.

I think he'll be thought about by every chairman bar the top 4 plus Spurs, Everton and Man City. Eck's reputation is growing the most rather than anything else, but he is still capable of mistakes.

I see a club like Middlesboro being in for him soon. He will prefer a club who is established in the EPL for a number of years and who has a decent stadium and set up.

N/A's

Chelsea

Man Utd

Liverpool

Arsenal

Tottenham

Man City - I wouldnt make this a 100% non starter. Sven could easy bonk a secretary and move onto an Italian club

Everton - Moyes is pretty much set up for a while but again not a 100%. But would the toffees like a 3rd scot in charge in a row.

Possibilities from both parties:

Blackburn - Should Hughes move onto bigger job

Newcastle

Aston Villa - Although O Neill would need to move on first after a row with the yanks

Middlesboro

West Ham - Linked here before and going by rumours, Curbs has about 6 games to save his job

Sunderland - Big club, depends if Keane goes in a huff or moves on

Portsmouth - Not very fashionable and i think they would struggle without Harry

Bolton - A slight possibility here due to there decent set up. Cant see Megson being a long term boss (meaning 2 season).

No's:

Fulham

Birmingham

Wigan

Derby

Reading

The french league is a likely choice aswell.

Eck should have waited until the WC qualifiers. He has gone for the money, and had a real chance to prove himself worthy of a higher team than Brum.

They have a big following, but they are poor at best.

He will now have a relegation battle every year if they stay up. And if they don't he will be oot the door.

Shame really - He could have been a possibility at a bigger club.
