I don't think he failed to win us our first scottish cup in over a decade, or get us to a european final, or get us qaulified for the Champions league, or have the most financially successful season we've had for years. GIO did that in a year with a poor budget.

Why was he ever sacked... ?

Who said that?

Is it not what you’re suggesting?
You said the DoF is in charge of recruiting.

if he signs duds whose fault is it?

I accept almost all clubs have a DoF/sporting director. Perhaps some better at their jobs than others

The DoF is in charge of recruitment. He should be judged on it.

A large section of our support has already judged him negatively, like yourself. I don't entirely disagree with you.

Another section of the support believes that the manager (GvB) has failed to get the most out of the new signings.

I lean towards the latter, but don't think you're wrong. In fact, both arguments can be true at the same time.

Colak is a case in point: by all accounts a good signing, but I still don't think we've gotten the best out of him. His conversion rate is superb, but we provide him with very few chances in a game.

I'm interested to see what a new manager gets out of them all.

Just seems to me(from what you’re saying) if the DoF screws it up then the manager on a hiding to nothing if he’s got little or no input to recruitment

He should have some input.

Any head coach - not the old 'manager' position - worth their salt should be able to get the most out of the players at their disposal. It's the modern game.

Gio done what he could but some of his tactics and timing of subs were bewildering.

What NO manager could legislate for was the horrendous list of injuries.Aside from the hapless Helander/Roofe/new signing Soutar the unfortunate ones to Goldson/Hagi and Lawrence did not help things.
