Be that as it may, chances created doesn't win you any games. We had dozen/-s of chances even when we were in the Championship, yet for one reason or another converted less than 20 % whereas the opposition scored from 50 to 75 % of their chances per game. A record that holds true to this day, and same with possession per game. (PS If you don't play enough lethal people / strikers, you won't score that many goals. A fact that our recent manager/s simply didn't acknowledge.)

Since I watch ice-hockey a lot too, I followed their habit and checked who was the player before the actual assist to the goal and dare I say it, Kent doesn't feature that often there either. I can do a quick check on that later on, but now I'm off to ... ice-hockey.

One thing I know with certainty, if you don't create chances you definitely wont win games (beating Celtic 1-0 at Ibrox with a Callum McGregor OG notwithstanding, lol).

Creating chances will most certainly give you a better chance of success.

Funny how we (myself included) will use whatever stats we wish to prove our point whilst ignoring the ones which may suggest we have an agenda.

Goals win you games - so should we now ignore all other stats ?

and that is before we get into the fact Yilmaz plays a different position to Kent whilst Matondo essentially is performing the same role on the opposite side.

No idea why you'd compare Yilmaz to Kent yeah. But wasn't sure what thresholds you were looking at in terms of playing time before judging as you seemed to use a very small sample set of minutes to differentiate being able to judge one but not another. As well as only looking at SPFL stats to which i think it would be unfair not to look across all competitions as the bulk of Yilmaz appearances have been in Europe and League cup.

IMO its fair to judge a player after 15 minutes(remember that chap Ali Dia for Southampton :D)  or 15 years, call it as you see it. I'm open to debate is all.

Stats cut through the sh*te.

I'm fully on board with the 'Kent's been rubbish' narrative, but those numbers are quite startling.

I would like to see the quality of the chances created, though. If he's just laying off a 5-yard pass for someone to hit a shot from 25-yards, then no wonder his assist numbers are low.

If the xA is quite high, then we'd need to pass the blame on to the finishing.

What's also clear is he doesn't score enough.

I wasnt applying thresholds mate, my point was exactly as I stated - that we have seen more to compare Matondo to Kent in terms of minutes and position than Kent to Yilmaz, minutes and position.

My sample set of league minutes was purely to prove we have seen more of Matondo to judge than we have of Yilmaz.  League minutes Matondo is only behind Kent by 3 games whereas Yilmaz hasnt seen much game time at all.  I agree it would be unfair not to look across all competitions - however, is it fair to Kent to be compared based on 180 minutes of league cup games against inferior opposition when he hasnt played those games, and is it fair to include Kent's CL minutes when those are far more difficult games - hence why, for Kent & Matondo, and I included Yilmaz as those were the 3 mentioned in dB's post, I used SPFL minutes :)

Souness - what a guy - Ali Dia, lol.  He is still taking pelters for that.

FWIW, I think Yilmaz is a fine player - I just don't think a comparison between he and Kent makes sense at this point and I don't think we can establish he is good enough for a title winning team.  Matondo gives me the fear though..... I am desperate for him to come good but my spidey senses tell me he is a very poor player !

None of our wide players score enough though, not just Kent.  And I am not defending Kent, just pointing out how poor our play is in terms of chance creation and goals.  Our wide players are playing, well, too wide and offer little inside where you can take shots.

But I would also throw in that our midfielders don't offer themselves up in the danger areas often enough either.

Pffftttt, football..... stupid game

Anthony Ralston has won more SPFL titles than Tav.... a stat that must prove he is better.....
