Communications and Contradictions

If you're expecting perfection first time every time then you will always be disappointed. Mistakes and misjudgements will inevitably be made by all involved. I can say with some experience that progress often depends as much on dogged persistence as on perfect decision making - which is why far more will always be achieved with the club and supporters acting in a cooperative partnership. This rebuild is nowhere near completion and the tasks involved are large of often complex, what's essential is that there is a clear direction of travel and that everyone consistently pushes in that direction. This is the main reason why Club1872 and the RST before it have been such massive failures and contributed almost nothing to the task in hand.

Well said Bill. WATP

Alignment is a word often used by various members of the board. It is vital that the various strands of running the football club come together in a strategic plan.

Generally, it has gone ok but I think they have made a mistake with communication.

Alignment regards communication took the form of positive PR towards customer base. It was about giving them what you thought they wanted to hear, often within a context of the rivalry with Celtic.

This was supposed to keep us happy and encourage the spending of money on the club.

This type of communication was well received by the vast majority of the support. Until results and performance trends started the general 'inquest'.

This has brought up a number of issues around mgmt, squad, finances, etc....but also includes communication.

Three things

1. The club need to treat fans as generally intelligent enough to take on board realism, whatever that looks like. Consistently, not occasional heavy doses that seem contrary to what has gone before.

The club should realise that loyalty isn't a problem.

2. The fans need to be able to deal with consistent realism. It will often be difficult.

3. Say goodbye to David Graham and get someone in who knows what he/she is doing.

Perhaps it's also about expectations

It is absolutely about setting expectations. A very key part of stakeholder management.

“it’s been a fantastic boost to the club’s finances. It’s been a fantastic addition to what we budgeted for so that allows us to look at strengthening the team in the summer […] The run we’ve had now is probably slightly more than we would have had from the Champions League. It’s a terrific boost, it allows us to do so many things”

Ross Wilson made a comment at last years AGM along the lines of any money raised from player sales will be reinvested in the squad.

Are good examples of not setting expectations correctly. You wouldn't promise your kids a puppy for Xmas and give them a goldfish.

When you start quoting yourself, perhaps it’s worth considering the possibility that repetition doesn’t actually add much to the debate.😉

Communications ...

I for one would be happy if we had some sort of "Doc`s Words" every other week, so we know what is up with Hagi, Helander, Roofe , and Co.. There is virtually no "transparency" about their state. If there are private issues like there are with Davies, just say so and it's fine. But no info is just terrible.

Not sure how he can say that when the club made losses of £24m and £17m on the 2 previous years. That's just crazy if that's what he said.

However it's also been said plenty of times that we need a player trading model to survive, which implies that transfer income is needed for us to break even.

If I had to put a number on my fag packet, for our average loss in the last couple of decades.....it would be in the region of 10M sterling.

My fag packet would need an annual average of £10M net gain from principally, the player trading model (PTM) for the club to become sustainable.

Edmiston House brings to mind Rangers Pools. We could do with finding something as profitable again to take the pressure off the PTM.

I have just received the most recent email with the MyGers newsletter contained therein. After these issues of communications and promises to do better, I read on with interest.

Firstly, a piece of news about the MyGers points totals being updated and categories reviewed taking place soon. Fair enough.

The other 7 items in the newsletter are all links to sell stuff to us. 4th strips, car mats, phone covers, picture frames etc. So not really a newsletter at all, more just another marketing email.
