Stoke reject firing Real Madrid to CL Final?

"....Real Madrid, the club of the so-called galacticos, are in the Champions League final thanks a footballer who, with the greatest respect, is no sort of galactico at all. He’s 34. He’s at Madrid on loan from second division Espanyol. He used to play for Stoke City. Oh, and it so happens he’s a Spaniard who was born in Germany, where, at least in Bavaria, he is now not very popular.

He is Joselu, a name that will be for ever attached to another of those comebacks that, in recent Champions League campaigns, have become a genuine Madrid trademark. “It’s hard to explain, something magic,” Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid’s head coach, said of a late turnaround that had Joselu — coming on only in the 80th minute of a semi-final that was edging away from Madrid, thanks to Alphonso Davies’s superb second-half strike for Bayern Munich, and transforming it...."

From what I read at the time Real Madrid were managing their finances - they have Mbappe to finance.

They needed a cheap striker option that could play a bit-part job in the league, and Joselu had been a half-decent striker in La Liga for a couple of seasons (averaged around 15 goals per season, which he has continued this season).

He was cheap and happy to play second-fiddle.

Food for thought.

Leverkusen scored (another) 97th minute goal to equalise on the night against Roma. They will play Atalanta the final.

They have the Pokal final to come.

They have already won the league.

They are still unbeaten in all competitions.

Not one single club from the richest league in the world making an appearance any of the three European finals.🤣 .

You gotta laugh.

There was a school of thought, some years ago, which opined that Scottish sides did not do well against 'Continentals'

primarily because the League was, well, pish, with little quality and competition.

Prior to that the reason for failures, from ignominious upwards, was stated as the 'three foreigner rule', or the 'eight diddies rule' as it was sometimes, unkindly, called.

(I am inclined to think that reaching Europa Finals  -the fhilth, in 2004, and ourselves in 2008, and 2022- might undermine the former thesis, and confirm the latter.)

That the 'best and most competitive' League in the world's representatives have failed to reach any of the three European Finals is explained, now, by the assertion that it is, in fact, 'too competitive', which militates against success in European tournaments.

As I said, you gotta laugh.

Does it impact us for next season CL wise as to who wins on Saturday? I know Dortmund getting there potentially helps the season after next, but just wondered for the upcoming season. I didnt think it was that stupid a question!
