BEARGER 1,830
GvB seems able to get tactics/selection & subs correct in Europe but seems incapable of doing so in the domestic games. As soon as the team was announced with 3 defensive midfielders yesterday, we all knew the plan was to sit in and invite Celtic on to us. It was embarrassing. Gio and his staff are responsible for yesterday’s shambles along with the board who did not come up with sufficient funds to strengthen the team. The league is gone for this season already, we know there’s more turgid games ahead where we will drop more points. Will the board act sooner rather than later?

They are delighted that we are bringing big money in from our European exploits. If Gio keeps getting us to the promised land of CL even if through qualifiers, he won't be sackedl Edited September 4, 2022 by weebluedevil

How is our spend/turnover against Celtic over the last 18 months? Yes it is imo, hope you’re correct. Agreed.
Popular Post CammyF 8,385
Said yesterday the our board (and I've heard this from a very good source) have prioritised Europe over domestic success. As long as Gio or who ever is the manager continues to bring in £30-£40M from Europe, domestic negligence will be accepted. I don't see Gio doing a SG and leaving due to not being backed. Someone said yesterday that Celtic are our barometer. If that is the case, they have shown that you can't rule domestically as well as excelling in Europe. Their model is simple - win the league and get automatic qualification to CL. If that doesn't happen, sell 4 or 5 players at an profit. Also, if Celtic are our barometer, check the difference in transfer budgets - their spend dwarfs ours. There is so much wrong with our Club - ticketing, customer service, safe standing, catering, diasabled access to name a few issues and now we've been added to UEFA FFP watch-list, the purse strings are not going to be lossened. Our board are NOT what we need to take us forward but they aren't going anywhere soon so we're stuck with them. The league is not lost, but its now an uphill battle to get back into the race but with (financial) pressure on us to progress in Europe, all our energy and focus will be on that. After the sale of Aribo, Patterson and Bassey we don't have players sales to fall back on - Kamara would be the only player we could sell for a profit in the January transfer window. Bleak period ahead... unless this team clicks and goes unbeaten from now until end of season which I can't see happening.
der Berliner 3,808
IMHO, Gio is very safe. While I have my doubts about tactics and the like, we did quite well so far this season, bar the Gollum-show at Easter Road and yesterday. If Old Firm games are a benchmark of managers, we and them would rotate them quicker than a Gatling gun. They are on form - hopefully until Real puts them back into place, while we suffer from a string of absentees, namely Helander, Davies, Hagi, Lawrence and Roofe, who would all challenge for starting places. It was match day 6 and no-one has won anything yet. It`s not like we haven`t seen similar before, only that back in the Sir Walter years, we`d probably be out of Europe by now. Gio has managed one big milestone of the season already, reaching the CL group phase. Now he needs to weed out that similar complacency that saw us falling away after 55 was secured and get certain players out of their comfort zone.
BEARGER 1,830
Copied from Four Lads had a Dream Twitter posts. 13 away league games in 2022 calendar year 6 wins, 5 draws, 2 defeats. 46% win rate 22 for 19 against (clean sheets 2) Of those 13, good performances? St Mirren, Motherwell & Hearts (last game of season) If people are asking on GVB, this is why and it’s indefensible. The draws - Aberdeen 1-1, Ross County 3-3, Dundee Utd 1-1, Celtic 1-1, Hibs 2-2 Wins - 0-1 St Johnstone, 0-4 St Mirren, 1-2 Dundee, 1-3 Hearts, Motherwell 1-3, 1-2 Livi. Defeats - 3-0 & 4-0 to Celtic Edited September 4, 2022 by BEARGER

BlackSocksRedTops 3,809
The league is over. This is not based on yesterday but the fact that our overall away record is piss poor. We've backed ourselves into a corner which means we simply cannot afford to drop points. Can anyone see this team going on a 15 20 match winning streak? Last season and our form this season suggest otherwise.
