Really is depressing reading - added to Motherwell being dumped out by a League Of Ireland team - Scottish Football is a laughing stock.

It's worth noting that the two teams we eliminated from the CL qualifiers are both sitting pretty in the Europa: unbeaten, will both very probably progress beyond the group stage, and have a set of results we'd all be content with.

Would Gio be getting it in the neck if we were in USG's current position in the Europa League? Would USG have fared any better than us if they were in our CL group?

There's a gulf in prize money between CL and EL, but there's also a converse gulf in enjoyment that makes it barely worth it.

Europa League is our level football wise, but financially we require the CL. So we'll take the circa £30M for 6 x drubbings.

Gio would have been crucified by large sections of our support if we didn't qualify for CL, just as SG was last season.

Like everyone, I wanted CL football this season.

Going forward, I ain't so sure but whilst it is guarranteed for SPFL winners, we very much have to go for it.

The gulf in prizemoney between CL and EL won't be that great whilst our 10 year co-efficent is relatively low and we lose all our games. Nor will our 10 year co-efficent improve much when we get beat every match day.

The other proviso being that we do fairly well in the EL.

Hearts..................... 2 x (4-0 defeats)

Motherwell............. 2 defeats to Sligo Rovers

Dundee United...... 7-0 defeat

Rangers.................. 7-1, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0

Celtic...................... No wins

Games Played : 22 (8)

Goals For : 14 (7)

Goals Against : 54 (20)

(Rangers numbers in brackets)

Hearts victory last night was their second group stage win in the European Conference.

Another defensive injury (Kingsley/ Hamstring tweak) has Hearts really struggling as the two games a week continues up to the WC (Ross County are 3/1 to bt them at the weekend)....An optimistic Fiver on a Livingston and Ross County double pays 240

This weeks results were almost a mirror image of the reverse fixtures

Rangers 0-3 and 3-0

Hearts 0-2 and 2-1

Celtic 1-1 and 1-1

Scottish clubs in Europe update (including qualifiers)

Games Played : 25 (9)

Goals For : 17 (7)

Goals Against : 59 (23)

(Rangers numbers in brackets)

Although Hearts win boosted the co-efficient slightly, Belguim jumped above us in the table. We are now 9th and Austria (10th) have an outside chance of overtaking us this season but that is as bad as it will get. So I think that means that the Scottish Champions next season will gain direct access to the CL.
