Alfredo Morelos will stay at Rangers beyond the end of the transfer window and be an important part of their plans for the season ahead.

Doubt has surrounded the striker’s future since he was sent off in the recent draw with Hibs and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the Rangers manager, questioned his fitness and attitude.

Morelos was dropped from the Rangers squad, prompting calls for him to be sold, but Van Bronckhorst insisted last night that he had spoken to the 26-year-old and seen a change in his approach.

While he was suspended for the 3-1 victory against Queen of the South in the Premier Sports Cup, Morelos is eligible to feature in the Scottish Premiership derby at Celtic Park on Saturday.

“I had a good chat with him on Sunday,” Van Bronckhorst said. “He had a good week to train, but also to think about his future. I had a good talk with him.

“As I said before, he is still a Rangers player. I think he is going to be important for us in the next months and this season. I saw a change in his attitude, the way he worked. He has to continue working like this for the next coming months to be the player he can be — and a player who can give us a lot.”

Van Bronckhorst also suggested that he had no plans to add to his squad before the transfer deadline on Thursday night.

Looks like Gio has delivered a new striker just before the window closes after all. The more I see of him, the better manager he turns out to be.

Alfredo holds the cards and can stay if he wants, running down the last year of his contract.

What do we get from him is the question. A committed footballer, a half arsed approach or the customary, mixture of the two ?

If he were to switch on to his professional side, it would be hugely helpful for our title aspirations. If not, he'd be better out of the building.

The same conundrum since August 2018 but this time, entering the last year of his contract.

We'd have been better to move him on 4 years ago IMO.

Wilson obviously knows all of that but can only do what he can do.

From that point on it's all about trying to get something useful out of Morelos this season.

We desperately need a centre forward.

We have three, two of which are unreliable.

We also have the usual 2 games a week season that requires reliable depth.

Need to get a right winger in to replace Matondo.

We'd have replaced Lundstram this time last year if the same conditions applied.

That said, a young winger at Rangers has a difficult job on his hands and the majority can't stick it.

The one who did, cost 7m.

Exactly. It's unfortunate that he's been injured otherwise we could have sold him this window for a half decent price. The opportunity cash in on someone who was our biggest saleable asset 3 years ago has MAYBE gone. Let's just hope he buckles down and helps us win the title this season if he does go for free next summer.

ITK poster on FF has said Lawrence is injured and out for a few weeks.

Big blow with the upcoming games.

You can't ask Tillman to do it twice a week or another injury will ensue.
