[FT] Rangers 1 - 2 Celtic (Ramsey 3')

Recommended Posts

When SG left and Gio took over I was genuinely hopeful that he would continue SGs good work and build in 55.

Instead, with admittedly no backing from the board, he's taken us backwards.

Everything we done well last season we can't replicate this season.

Huge summer ahead - they'll strengthen - whilst we can't afford to not strengthen, if the last two windows are anything to go by, expect a few free transfers, a couple of loans and maybe a player or two from lower reaches for SPFL or Dutch football.

Truly sickening to think we've handed them this title.

  • Rousseau changed the title to [FT] Rangers 1 - 2 Celtic (Ramsey 3')

I have wondered, on a few occasions, whether GvB & Co look upon this season as a 'free hit', one on which they may not be judged.

They took over, mid-term, a team which was not playing to its full potential, and have had only a Jan window in which to operate.

The results in Europe have been, at the least,  acceptable, those domestically, not, and by a very long way.

The question is, of course, if we end up potless, not a proposition I should bet against, is GvB to be entrusted with building his own side?

The management team took over with us 4points clear at the top, we have thrown it away since then. If the scum win a treble this season, and we don't win the Europa league, Gio and his team must go. Simple as that.

You know that's not going to happen. The real question is where will we be after another full season of GioBall?

And after the departures of a number of players out of contract in the summer and those entering the final year of their contract where will we be?

Anyone who`d think SG would have done anything different to Gio is IMHO kidding himself. SG has played the same style and players throughout his reign. It were the players who threw the games away big time, namely McGregor and Goldson ... while our striking drought was never addressed.

Ramsey is and was a spark, yet we removed him and let Aribo and Kent do nothing. The day we introduce another striker and a couple of decent wingers (which we have) will be the day we start challenging again. We have talked about the rot for ages, blamed players and coaches alike, yet the most glaring thing is never changed.

Not dropping McGregor has been a huge mistake  by GvB

Mcgregor’s mistakes alone this season have obliterated any points advantage we had over them. Add-in all those draws and I can’t believe we’ve thrown away the league like this. We need a proper clear out of those who’ve underachieved year after year with us and Gio looks so tactically naive at times. There was a big gap between midfield and the front… and a big gap from midfield to defence too.

Under SG we were undefeated against Celtic for 2 years and prior to that, had defeated them at Parkhead and played them off the pitch at Hampden.

Under SG we had a style of play, the players knew their jobs and knew what was expected of them. We had Beale and Calshaw who is take back tomorrow.

Under SG we were 6 points clear of Celtic and had beaten then at Ibrox with a Covid ravaged squad.

Under Gio, we've surrendered that lead, lost twice to Celtic (one an absolute hammering, one a whimper of a performance).

We've regressed alarmingly since Gio has taken over, the league and the performances atest to that.

Board have a huge decision - either back Gio significantly if they believe he is their man, or remove him. Backing him with words is pointless.

1. We have no plan B when Morelos is not playing, manager seems incapable of coming up with something different. Roofe is entirely different player.
2. Aribo way off the pace.
3. Kent too inconsistent.
4. Goldson thinks he's Beckenbauer.
5. Manager slow at changing things and when he does its the wrong one e.g. keeping Aribo on.
