[FT] Rangers 1 - 2 Celtic (Ramsey 3')

I realise this wont be popular opinion but I'm going to put it out there. Given he was virtually anonymous on Sunday I don't think it was a good decision from Ryan Jack to go to Austria and play over an hour in a friendly for Scotland. Especially when he struggles to play 1 out of two games in a week for us. He is big for us when he plays normally.

It's only one qualifier AFAIK??🤔

I think it's the second qualifying round, which would mean 2nd, 3rd then the play-offs to navigate.

Although, it does say (wikipedia) that the league winners go into the play-off round, which is not direct access to the CL group stages.

Our goal difference in SPL since Gio took over? +7......

It's strange that, isn't it?

When you think of Dutch football, it's free-flowing and attacking.

We're more like Van Gaal's United, where they just keep passing the ball about for no reason.

But, we can't even keep the ball.

As long as VAR is operated by the SFA, which it will be, all it will do is corroborate and vindicate the same bad decisions we suffer from at the moment. To that extent it may even make things worse.

Maybe those decisions that require a degree of interpretation, but those that require they get the lines out - I don't see how they can get that wrong.

If they do get those wrong, then it would represent outright corruption and it would be quite obvious.

Saying that, their incompetence may surprise me...

linesmen were fine on sunday, even good. Ref was cheating.

Or maybe not. If we (and them) have to foot the majority of the bill, I'd hope that the club demand that it's officiated by people better than the SFA have to offer.

That would be good ..... but it's simply NOT going to happen.

VAR wasn't introduced yesterday in England, yet recent weeks have shown plenty of instances where further scrutiny reveals a consensus that VAR achieved the wrong critical decisions. The assumption in England is that these mistakes are unintentional and unfortunate, nothing more, but in Scotland you will add to the equation the same underlying and persistent cheating that characterised the work of the Compliance Officer - a series of incumbents carefully chosen for their predisposition towards Celtic. It will inevitably be the same with VAR and any thought this won't be the case should quickly be consigned to the bin of naivety.

VAR isn't a panacea, it's simply a tool that can be used wisely and fairly .... or not. In Scotland it will be used to corroborate the will of authorities we already know we can't trust. In the past we've had cause to call for foreign referees in OF games and you can apply the same to VAR but that will never happen. We live in a social cesspit where government, church and media conspire in only one direction - and it's against that backcloth that everything has to be viewed.

Given it is a remote decision making tool there is absolutely ZERO reason that it needs to be someone inside the Scottish game.  Get a Dermot Gallagher type ex-ref who still understands the rules to be the video ref.  Let them retain their anonymity though otherwise, as we all know, the Tims will start threatening them and there goes your objectivity
