Their goal yesterday was a header from a corner centrally on the six yard box. Forty years ago the goalkeeper would be expected to deal with that Times have changed….

Yeh that was a very interesting link, scores a lot of goals in a very similar team/league. Interestingly Red Star are also 2nd after having an incredible season last season, just like us. They ended with 108 points from 38 league games and undefeated. They also unexpectedly tumbled out of the Chmpions League against lesser opposition (Sheriff). There's definitely something in it psychologically, it's really hard to follow up a season like that. Slavia Prague are similar, undefeated last season, tumbled out of the Champions League against Ferencvaros and are only top on goal difference, with no strong challengers.

Just playing devil's advocate as its frustrating to see us lose goals like yesterday's one. Basic, simple defending - just clear your lines. We've looked suspect at the back most of this season. And I don't mean suspect in that we've been shipping goals left, right and centre all year, but we've looked dodgy at set pieces again and from long balls in open play. We've got away with quite a few close calls in matches which we've gone on to win or draw very narrowly and I think teams are targeting these weaknesses now - things like McGregor's hesitancy in commanding his area. In games where we're struggling to break teams down, the margins between winning and losing are just getting smaller and smaller so losing goals like yesterday's feels like such a kick in the teeth.

Gonzo79 15,299
I agree with Gallagher there - neither of the handballs were penalties but the tug on Sakala definitely was. The handball ones are both a bit contentious though.
the gunslinger 3,366
i could go with the Jota one. The Utd handball will never be a clearer pen. What difference does it make who plays the ball before a handball.
the gunslinger 3,366
also the mulgrew tackle is wild and easily a red.
