Scotland U21 1-0 Czech Rep U21 Steven Naismith fired Scotland into an early lead Naismith celebrates his winning strike for Scotland A new-look Scotland Under-21 side earned a morale-boosting victory against an impressive Czech Republic team at the Falkirk Stadium. The only goal came after just four minutes when Kilmarnock forward Steven Naismith crashed in a wonderful strike from 25 yards. The lively Naismith then had a low drive well saved by Jakub Divis. The visitors enjoyed good possession but could not break down the stubborn Scots in a hard-fought friendly. Interview: Kilmarnock striker Steven Naismith The win sets the young Scots up nicely for next month's European Championship qualifying double-header against Finland and Denmark. Goal-hero Naismith, who captained the side, was the pick of the home players, full of tricks and good movement in the first half. Hibernian's Steven Fletcher led the line bravely for Scotland, while his Easter Road team-mate Lewis Stevenson put in a good shift on the left-side of midfield. Wolves left-back Charlie Mulgrew also caught the eye in a central midfield role. Naismith started on the left of a three-man attack, and early on he picked up a stray pass from Lukas Kuban, strode forward and unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the net. Ondrej Kudela should have levelled when he lost his marker following Kuban's free-kick but the Sparta Prague defender's first touch went straight into Jamie MacDonald's hands. Scott Cuthbert made a superb block after Lubos Kalouda's quick free-kick found Martin Fillo unmarked just inside the box. Kudela won two headers from corners which were just off target and MacDonald pushed away Mario Holek's free header from 12 yards. Stevenson then saved the day with a last-ditch challenge on Frantisek Rajtoral. And MacDonald saved from Michal Svec's volley from the resulting corner. Naismith almost grabbed a second when he knocked the ball past Kuban but his shot was stopped by Divis. Marek Strestik forced another good save from MacDonald from a tight angle after skilful play on the left wing. A raft of substitutions disrupted the flow of the game but Scotland went close when Ross McCormack's powerful 20-yard volley was parried and sub Ross Campbell blasted the rebound over from a difficult angle. From what I can make out from the report: McDonald ??? Cuthbert ??? ??? ??? Mulgrew Stevenson Naismith Fletcher McCormack? With sub Ross Campbell coming on.
