The Guard of Honour?

Recommended Posts

Out of my head I can only remember one or two Guards of Honour, handed to us be teams of the lower divisvions after we gained promotion early. I haven`t seen that many games of days gone by, but there sure never was a single Old Firm GoH for a clinched title win AFAIK. Even if they manage that feat on Sunday, it would be a token gesture and pandering to the mhedia who laid into us in days gone by, while antagonizing their hooped horrors outside the ground. If it wasn`t so pathetic, you could almost laugh at the clamour.

Does anyone else remember the 2007 (I think) EPL season, when one of the last matches was Chelsea v Man U. Both teams had been challenging for the title but Utd clinched it a couple of weeks before the supposed showdown match. Because nothing was at stake, both teams fielded their youth sides and a Chelsea team, who had contributed little or nothing to Chelsea's season lined u for a G of H for Utd players who had not played a first team game between them before that night. That should really have made it clear that this whole Guard thing is a nonsense and should be scrapped.
