I'd be really unhappy with a striker who had pulled out of that, when we're chasing such an important match.

 

It was reckless but there was no malice in it.  He got a deserved red card and that's that really.

Is there not a conflict there though? I can't see how we can say it was reckless but also he should go for it? I don't think anyone thinks Roofe did it intentionally so we can leave that, we all agree.

Again, I agree. Yet Roofe most likely didn`t even see him come out that far, as he was watching the ball. Likewise, on the other hand, the goalie saw him clear enough and looked at the end not knowing whether to stick or twist. It`s not his blame to get booted in the face, obviously, yet he could very well have expected what might happen and acted accordingly too. 

 

The end result is that we will miss Roofe for the CL qualifiers, Balogun for the first one too, if we sign him on for another season.

in hindsight absolutely. I am sure everyone including the player wishes he never. 

 

it was a horrible challenge but there was no malice in it. Their keeper was very brave and won them the game in that moment.
