The Summer 2020 Transfer Window Now Closed: Zungu signs on loan with option to buy

Apparently there is a release clause in Kent's contact and again apparently £14M is very close to activating the release clause.

It'll come down to the player and if he wants to move from being a big fish in a small pond with an opportunity to win trophies or if he wants to join the lower echelons of the EPL and a possible relegation dog-fight where he may not play every week (but he'll get paid "handsomely" for it).

Big decision for the boy and we'll struggle to replace him and would seriously dent our ability to challenge this season.

Gerrard alluded to it in his press conference. Saying once an offer of a certain size comes in, it changes the dynamic off the bid / transfer.

Most, if not all players will have a release in their contracts, just modern day football. Itten had one, we matched / offered it, he was free to talk to us and signed. Nothing his club could do about it. Same will happen if Leeds meet the figure in Kent's, it becomes a choice for the player to make and nothing we can do about it.

Not saying you’re wrong but he could just have been referring to the fact that if a club meets our valuation for any player that we would be forced to consider it.  And by our valuation, I assume he’s means something that that is 8 digits and begins with a 2.

I'll believe there's a release clause when someone who is in a position to know comes out and says "there's a release clause in Kent's contract". Until then it's just Santa Claus.

Worth considering, we paid 7 million a year ago, to turn a 100% profit in a year with a 14mill offer is pretty good business and not something we've done too well with as a club for a while.  Are we going back to boumy for that kind of profit made on a player?

I will say it again, in the English Premiership the money is utterly ridiculous. Arsenal reportedly (I dont believe it either) paid £25M for Tierney of the bheasts, who cant get into his shitty International side, when tested at European level was on the wrong end of several hidings conceding goals aplenty, is completely injury-prone, and cant defend.

Any bids coming in from an EPL club that dont beat the money paid for Tierney should be refused with the above explanation. Clubs there regularly pay £15-£20M for players with no top level experience, certainly no European experience, and with really poor goal returns stats.

I'm not saying Kent is a fantastic player worth huge money ( I still think we definitely overpaid for him - still no assists in about a year now for a winger), but you have to understand the values and prices being paid in the league the bidding club is working in.

That doesn’t mean there is a release clause , just an offer that matches our valuation .

I'm not sure an EPL club would pay £14 - £20m. Tierney was massively overpriced. I think Kent will be here for the season, and the next if he doesn't kick on and be a consistent match winner.
