I'll have a go at the impossible task .........

     Andy Goram

Sandy Jardine             Richard Gough           Derek Johnstone           Eric Caldow

John Greig         Paul Gascoigne          Jim Baxter

Willie Henderson         Ally McCoist         Brian Laudrup

Interesting. Derek Johnstone at centre half?

I know he played there occasionally, but thought he was predominantly a striker. He was when he signed for Chelsea in 1983.

This topic is the best XI but the best team:

The names in capitals are the optimum combination. The guys in brackets all played a part at one time or another, mostly with distinction.

(Niven) RITCHIE

(Little) SHEARER

CALDOW (Provan)

(Davis) GREIG

(Paterson) McKINNON

BAXTER ( (Stevenson)

(Scott) HENDERSON

McMILLAN. (McLean)

(Murray) MILLAR (Forrest)

BRAND

(Hubbard) WILSON

That’s the team I call the Rangers.

It shows the benefit of age when you see the likes of Craig Moore, Ian Ferguson, Barry Ferguson, Craig Moore, Mark Hately, Michael Mols, Arthur Numan, etc occupying places in the All Time Rangers Team. All good players certainly, all made big contributions in successful sides but mostly not up to the calibre of some of their predecessors.

Players I'd like to have picked but ran out of places for include

Tommy McLean, the best crosser of a ball I ever saw.

Derek Johnstone, a magnificent header of the ball

Alex McDonald, classic box to box midfield dynamo

Dave Smith, perhaps the most cultured left foot of his generation

Willie Johnston, direct and committed winger

Davie Cooper, it's all been said before

Jorg Albertz, Mr Freekicks

The teams should be picked by the decade it's so unfair to leave some players out
