compo 6,966
Just been looking at a preview of the English premier league and hardly a British manager in site so who were you in your opinion best ever British managers a top five . 1 Bob Paisley 2 Sir Alex Ferguson 3 Jock Stein 4 Bobby Robson 5 Bill Struth That's my verdict for what it's worth.
Scott7 5,928
Hard to argue that, compo. Sentiment clouds my judgement with Mr Struth so I’ll leave him and other Rangers managers out of the reckoning and agree 100% about Paisley. The reserve five would be Bill Nicholson (‘Spurs) Joe Mercer (City) Stan Cullis (Wolves) Bertie Mee (Arsenal - brought them back from the dead) Bill Shankly No room for Busby or Harry Catterick. Top five Scottish League managers excluding Rangers and Stein - Bill Shankly (Dundee) Tommy Walker (Hearts) Hugh Shaw (Hibs) Eddie Turnbull (Aberdeen, Hibs) Malky Macdonald (Kilmarnock) You’ll see I’ve missed out the Sportsound favourites, Yogi and the two Jimmies. What do I know, eh?
JFK-1 1,693
Number 1 would have to be Alex Ferguson given his feats at Aberdeen then phenomenal success with a team that hadn't won a title in a quarter of a century. Outside that I have difficulty choosing any more because the more I have in mind come from a different era. It's harder to compete and be dominant in the post Bosman era and Ferguson had to compete and did in that era of clubs being bankrolled by billionaires.
BlackSocksRedTops 3,739
No Clough? Won the league with 2 sides outside the regular top performers and won 2 European cups into the bargain On a side note it's amazing to think that no English manager has ever won the Premiership. Gonzo79 15,203
Bill Shankly. He turned Liverpool from a provincial side into a European heavyweight.
ChelseaBoy 2,431
Some great names suggested, i'd go with 1. Clough. 2. Shankly. 3. Ferguson 4. Paisley. 5. Busby. Have selected 1 and 2 as they created fantastic teams with minimal funds.
