Lee Wallace says Rangers hierarchy snubbed him after ending eight-year Ibrox stay

Wallace deserved some form of recognition from our directors, whatever happened in the dressing room at Hampden. Like it or not Wallace hung around when we were demoted, he could have earned more down south, it curtailed any international aspirations he had and led to him playing against sides no better than Junior level during the peak of his career. He was also the club captain and made over 190 appearances for us. I've yet to read him bad-mouth the club in public either. 

I do think expecting someone from the board to take a minute to thank him for his service and wish him all the best for the future isn't asking too much.

I would assume there wil alwqays be a warm welcome at the club for him in the future, if only by the suporrters and staff.

Lee Wallace made sure to thank Steven Gerrard when leaving Rangers

LEE WALLACE reckons Steven Gerrard is a cert to be Liverpool manager one day.

The ex-Rangers skipper played only 53 minutes under Anfield legend Gerrard last season.

But he saw enough to convince him the ex-Reds captain is going to the top of the managerial ladder.

Gerrard’s old England team-mate Frank Lampard appears destined for an emotional return to Chelsea as manager.

And Wallace is convinced Gerrard will be in the frame to become the next Kop boss — as long as he continues to shine at Ibrox.

The 31-year-old was so impressed by Gerrard he thanked the Gers boss for giving him a chance after his much publicised fall-out with club chiefs.

Wallace, who joined QPR last month, said: “Although I didn’t play a lot, Steven  was fantastic for me.

“What a learning experience it was to be up close and personal with Steven and Michael Beale, the first-team coach. He was incredible.

“They made a big impression on me in terms of my training levels and being an inspiring coach. The level of detail I was able to take from them was incredible.

“I made sure I thanked them when I was leaving.

“It wasn’t an ideal situation for them to inherit with myself. But I was given a fair crack at it and I was thankful to them.

“So I went in, shook their hands and wished them all the best moving forward.

“I saw everything last year — the training sessions, meetings and games — and I know the manager is on his way to the top.

“I think with the scenario we have seen with Frank Lampard and Chelsea, it is the same with him.

“The manager is on a mission at Rangers. He is here for a long time, but I think we all know what his dream role could be.

“He is on his way to doing that because I have seen an incredible manager.

“He is exceptional with the players, he has a great focus and drive and the  culture he created  was great.

“Because of that, when you go onto the pitch the players are going to be better.

“I saw a lot of improvement last season and they are moving forward from that. This season is gearing up to be a really good one.”

Despite staying on and helping them back through the leagues, he revealed NONE of the Ibrox  hierarchy came to speak to him at the end of the last campaign.

He believes it stems back to a bust-up with caretaker boss Graeme Murty after the 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final loss to Celtic in 2018 that saw Wallace and Kenny Miller suspended — before both were cleared by an SPFL tribunal.

The Scotland cap knew then his Ibrox career was all but over, but insists he never once regretted helping the club back through the divisions when he could have moved on.

He added: “No one from the top of the club spoke to me when I left. I’m not too disappointed in that because it was kind of expected.

“It gives me satisfaction myself and Kenny cleared our names because we smashed the appeal.

“It was a simple procedure because all we had to do was tell the truth.

“There will be a point and time I get to speak to certain people at the club.

“But we had a fantastic journey with Rangers. We had a lot of ups and downs but the fact I stayed, there was never a moment of regret about that.

“My only regret is not being able to lift major silverware with the club. That would have been a proud moment.

“I know they are in good hands. Last season was an educational journey for the manager and players.

“I think they are going to do really well this season. I wish them all the best.”
