You wouldn't be denying anyone their identity. That's hysterical nonsense. People express their identity in all sorts of ways - we're only talking about a football team. Having a UK football team doesn't make you any less Scottish, unless your sense of national identity is so shallow that it falls apart because we don't have a separate football team cheered on by people in kilts with pheasant feathers in their glengarry.

How about if we don't have a separate Olympic team, does that make you feel less Scottish? Should we refuse to take part in the British Lions? Surely our sense of Scottishness is on firmer ground than that. I know mine is.

A proposal to merge Rangers and Celtic into Glasgow United for a potential UK League was met by widespread hysterical nonsense yesterday despite valiant efforts by some to tell them it was only fitbaw.

Personally, I’d prefer to see a U.K. FA, a U.K. league system and a U.K. national team. It’s the only way the game here will ever be pulled out of its ongoing corruption and endless decline.

There's absolutely no question about it. Rangers will never get back to where they were on the European stage again unless we join the English leagues. The only thing stopping it is nationalism.

Can you see a Wembley crowd chanting "Bonnie Britain, we'll support you evermore"? British Lions - not a rugger fan but don't see the point. Rugby World Cup has 4 nations. As for the Olympics, I don't feel any great affinity with Team GB (although it OUGHT to be Team UK). Your attitude is like the Walter Scott 'North Britons' cringe.

No the only thing stopping it is the parochialism of the English clubs and their self-preservation. oh, and Eufa with their opposition to cross-border leagues. It certainly sticks in my craw that Wales can have teams in their league and still have a national side, both more successful currently than ours.

Probably the biggest factor anchoring us to our current mediocrity has been fully illustrated above in three of the last four posts.

Take away football supporters and their perception of an identity (that fuels loyalty) and you have no football, at least as we know it.

You say you can merge teams into a UK XI and that it would be hysterical nonsense to protest about losing identity because it's only football. How would you see a merger between Rangers and Celtic football teams ?

No more questions Your Honour, the prosecution case is made and the defence is out to lunch.

Translated: No answer because you haven't got one that would make sense.

Bombastic logic is all very well but when it can be blown away in a sentence or two, it's shown up for what it is.

That will move the Sep 1st. Last time we returned from Ufa to play at Parkhead after they had played at home on the Thursday. Hopefully this time we get the luck, that game was a huge one for the league despite being so early in the season.
