After a friendly with an amateur club on Saturday three thugs attacked him as he walked across the car park to his car. They left him almost blind and his nose and eye sockets were broken in a number of places. Luckily it is thought once all the swelling has gone down he will regain full sight.

Are we coming to an age that footballers need to walk with bodyguards?

A horrible thought for what is only really a game.

Footballers are becoming to distant from society now due to fame and money. 20 years ago you'd see players taking public transport to training but now its all about Aston Martins and massive 4x4s.

That doesnt excuse Kromkamps hiding, he doesnt deserve that, but the public see players as something else these days and when assholes who cant control themselves see an opposition player this is the sort of thing that happens.

I think with the rivallery between clubs these days, and not just local Derby clubs, players would be insane to take public transport.

No doubt they would get heckled by some little buggers and probably more often than not try to take matters into their own hands and get sued for 'hitting out'.
